The estate

Founded in 2016 in Meursault, Burgundy, the Pierre Girardin estate is run by Pierre-Vincent Girardin. Representing the thirteenth generation of his family, he launched his first vintage in 2017, at the age of 19. The estate spans approximately 4.5 hectares in Burgundy and more than 6 hectares in the Jura. Renowned for his approach centred on the pure expression of terroir, the current owner combines family heritage with precision techniques, while committing to sustainable, environmentally friendly viticulture.

The vineyard

This wine comes from the "La Colombière" climat, located in the eastern part of the commune of Vosne-Romanée. This terroir is characterised by soils composed of clay and limestone, with a less pronounced stone content than in neighbouring plots. The vines planted here have an average age of 60 to 80 years, which gives the grapes remarkable concentration and complexity thanks to their deep root systems.

The vintage

The year 2022 in France was marked by specific weather conditions that allowed for an ideal balance to be reached. Rainfall of around 100 millimetres in June played a key role, preserving good acidity while supporting the development of optimal berry ripeness, without excess.

Winemaking and aging

For the Vosne-Romanée Village "La Colombière" 2022, the grapes are hand-harvested and followed by rigorous sorting. Fermentation takes place using whole bunches with a maceration period of around ten days punctuated by pump-overs, without punching down, followed by gentle pressing. Aging first takes place for 12 months in 228-litre barrels, 30 to 50% of which are lightly toasted new oak, before continuing in stainless steel tanks for 4 to 8 months. Bottling is carried out according to the lunar calendar, without fining or filtration.

Tasting notes

Color
The color reveals a hue ranging from garnet to ruby.

Nose
The nose expresses a lovely complexity of red fruits such as strawberry, cherry and redcurrant. It is enriched with secondary notes of violet, earth and subtle spicy touches.

Palate
Favouring elegance over power, the palate offers a silky texture supported by exceptionally fine tannins. Medium-bodied, it stands out for its freshness and precision, extending into a long finish marked by a lovely minerality.

Service and storage

This wine will reveal its full complexity after a few years in the cellar. It can be enjoyed at its best after one to two years of rest, and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2037.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry such as duck breast or guinea fowl, as well as with delicate meats such as veal fillet with mushrooms or herb-crusted rack of lamb. It also enhances mushroom-based dishes, such as a porcini risotto, and is a fine match for soft, washed-rind cheeses like Saint-Nectaire or Brillat-Savarin.
