Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Otronia Pinot Noir 2021
Tasting
Color
The color displays a delicate ruby tint, enhanced by purple highlights.
Nose
The bouquet is characterized by its mineral elegance and delicate aromas of red fruit: fresh strawberry, cherry, and ripe raspberry. Spicy notes of black pepper complete this aromatic palette, accompanied by subtle herbaceous and floral touches evoking rose.
Palate
On the palate, this wine reveals a dry and fresh character. The fine structure presents a slightly gripping texture that adds depth to the palate, while preserving balance and elegance. Lively acidity and the precise maturity of the fruit characterize this Patagonian Pinot Noir.
Food and wine pairings
This Pinot Noir pairs harmoniously with fine charcuterie, grilled fish or fish in sauce, poultry, red meats and grilled meats, game, spicy dishes, strong cheeses as well as pasta with tomato sauce.
Serving and cellaring
This Pinot Noir 2021 can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve until approximately 2026.
A mineral and delicate Pinot Noir from Patagonia
The estate
Established in 2010 in Sarmiento in the Chubut province of Patagonia, Otronia embodies the southern limit of global viticulture at the 45°33' parallel. Owned by Grupo Avinea, part of Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards, the estate cultivates 52 hectares of organic vines distributed across two plots bordering Lake Musters. Led by oenologist Juan Pablo Murgia, named best young Argentine winemaker in 2021, and with advice from Alberto Antonini, Otronia stands out for its innovative anti-frost system creating a protective effect and for its wines with remarkable natural acidity, true expressions of an extreme terroir.
The vineyard
This Pinot Noir comes from two distinct plots located in the Sarmiento region of Patagonia: Paico (Lot 1) and Sierra Silva (Lot 82). These vineyards are found in the Chubut province, near Lake Musters, in an extreme winegrowing zone of the Rio Negro Valley. The organic vines benefit from a unique Patagonian climate, marked by significant thermal amplitude and exceptional luminosity.
Winemaking and aging
The harvest for the Pinot Noir 2021 was carried out manually in mid-March for the Paico plot (March 15) and late March for Sierra Silva (March 20). Winemaking took place in French oak vats with 50% whole bunches. After the completion of malolactic fermentation, the wine aged for 22 months in untoasted French oak foudres. Bottling took place in January 2023.
Grape variety
This Argentine red wine is a 100% Pinot Noir.
