The estate
Since ancient times, Château Miraval has been the home of many great men. Thomas Aquinas, the Prince of Naples and also Jacques Loussier have lived within its pastel pink walls. In 1970, this famous French jazz pianist revolutionised Château Miraval: installing a recording studio where all the greatest rock legends were invited. In 2008, this magical place conquered the hearts of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt who decided to buy the estate. Château Miraval underwent renovation to modernise the estate. Reaching the pinnacle of excellence, the couple successfully elevated Château Miraval's reputation, regarded as one of the finest Provence wines.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the Var, the illustrious Château Miraval benefits from an exceptional terroir in Correns, the first organic village in France. Miraval Rosé 2020 comes from the Château’s best vines and benefits from its own valley in the heart of Provence, as well as a selection of grapes and wines from vineyards located mainly in the northern part of Provence. The partially terraced clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 350 metres provide Miraval vines with the ideal conditions to ripen grapes that grow to display acidic and mineral identities. The significant temperature variations between day and night provided the 2020 Miraval Rosé with a perfect balance.
The vintage
The mild winter led to the vine’s early budburst. This was followed by a wet and cold spring with two episodes of frost causing some damage to the young shoots. Fortunately, the rest of the flowering period took place in the best conditions and the hot, dry summer kept the vines in a perfectly healthy condition. The harvest was early, starting on September 9th and lasting about ten days.
Vinification and ageing
The very high quality of the grapes harvested lead to a vinification process which required very low intervention. Following the harvest, the grapes are sorted and then destemmed. The Cinsault, Grenache and Rolle grapes are pressed directly, while the Syrah is vinified by bleeding. Then, 95% of the wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and 5% in barrels with stirring.
The blend
Cinsault, grenache, rolle and syrah.
