Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Richebourg Grand Cru Domaine 2023 by Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Colour
The wine shows a beautiful red colour.
Nose
Intense and complex, the bouquet reveals aromas of red and black fruits such as black cherry, blackberry and plum, enhanced by floral notes of violet and iris. The whole is elevated by touches of sweet spice, warm stone and forest floor.
Palate
Combining power and subtlety, the palate offers a full body and a silky texture. The tannins, both firm and refined, support a beautiful fruit concentration. The tasting unfolds into an exceptionally long and persistent finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great red wine will pair wonderfully with full-flavoured meats such as game birds, roast fillet of beef, or slow-cooked dishes with mushrooms and truffle.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate the complexity of the 2023 vintage, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, after decanting for at least one hour. Built for the long term, this age-worthy wine can be cellared for more than 20 years.
The Elegance and Power of a Burgundy Grand Cru
The Estate
Officially founded in 1981, Domaine Méo-Camuzet is an emblematic figure of Burgundy, in France. Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, in Vosne-Romanée, the estate extends over a vineyard of approximately 17 to 18 hectares. The family history dates back to the 17th century, but it was under the impetus of Étienne Camuzet and the renowned winemaker Henri Jayer that the style was forged. Today, Jean-Nicolas Méo heads the estate, perpetuating a philosophy that combines structure, finesse and charm through cuvées of worldwide renown.
The Vineyard
The Richebourg parcel farmed by the estate covers a rare 0.84 hectare within the prestigious appellation of Vosne-Romanée. The vines are cultivated using methods very close to organic farming, with meticulous soil work through regular ploughing and strict yield management. Harvesting is exclusively by hand, followed by an extremely rigorous sorting on the table so as to retain only the healthiest, perfectly ripe berries.
The Vintage
The 2023 vintage stands out for a rare combination of generosity and high quality. Despite a summer marked by some weather instability, the end of the season proved particularly mild and favourable. These ideal conditions before the harvest yielded grapes of beautiful ripeness, giving the wines remarkable balance and great freshness.
Vinification and Ageing
The making of this wine begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration lasting three to five days. Fermentation then starts naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, accompanied by measured punching down and pumping over for a gentle extraction. Ageing continues for 20 months in approximately 75% new oak barrels, sourced from the noble forests of Tronçais and Bertranges. Finally, the wine is bottled by gravity, without any prior filtration or fining.
Grape Variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
