Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the 2024 Riesling "Berg" by Mélanie Pfister
Tasting Notes
Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue with bright, luminous highlights.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of well-ripened stone fruit, apple and subtle lemon, complemented by delicate floral notes reminiscent of orange blossom and touches of minerality.
Palate
Lively and warm, the palate offers a straight, honest structure. It reveals a beautiful balance between vivacity and roundness, carried by a persistent freshness and a pronounced minerality. The finish is long, dry and marked by a lovely salinity.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine from France pairs wonderfully with seafood, shellfish such as oysters or shrimp, and white fish. It also goes very well with herb-roasted poultry, vegetables with mineral notes such as asparagus, or a fresh goat's cheese.
Service and storage
The 2024 Riesling "Berg" can be enjoyed now, but will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2027.
Other characteristics
This wine is completely dry, with no residual sugar. Its alcohol content ranges between 12 and 13.5%.
The Mineral Expression of a Riesling from Domaine Mélanie Pfister
The estate
Founded in 1780, the Domaine Mélanie Pfister is located in the Alsace region. Today, Mélanie Pfister, representing the eighth generation, has been at the helm of the estate since 2008. This family-run domaine spans a 10-hectare vineyard divided into around forty plots. Building on its heritage, it stands out for its approach combining tradition and modernity, having obtained organic certification in 2021 and adopted biodynamic practices. The estate is committed to producing dry white wines that faithfully express their terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Dahlenheim in Alsace, the terroir dedicated to this cuvée comes from two historic hillside plots. The vines, averaging around forty years of age, thrive on clay-limestone soils resting on a limestone bedrock. This particular geology gives the wine its characteristic structure and minerality. The estate places great importance on biodiversity and soil health through environmentally responsible vineyard management.
The vintage
The hand harvest took place in early October, at a time chosen to ensure optimal ripeness of the berries. These conditions made it possible to harvest grapes combining beautiful aromatic concentration with preserved freshness.
Winemaking and aging
After being hand-harvested, the grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic purity. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts from the vineyard. Malolactic fermentation occurs simultaneously with alcoholic fermentation. Finally, the 2024 Riesling "Berg" undergoes extended aging on fine lees for eighteen months before being gently filtered through cellulose plates.
Grape variety
100% Riesling.
