A Premier Cru from Pernand-Vergelesses with an Exceptional Terroir
The Estate
Officially founded in 1797 in Beaune, in Burgundy, the house of Louis Latour is a true independent family institution. Now led by Florent Latour, representing the eleventh generation, this prestigious brand oversees an exceptional 48-hectare vineyard, a large part of which is classified as Grand Cru. A pioneer, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment, having held ISO 14001 certification for nearly twenty years, and has the unique distinction of owning its own cooperage. A historic expertise that perpetuates French winemaking excellence.
The Vineyard
The terroir of the climat of Île des Vergelesses, located within the Pernand-Vergelesses appellation, sits at the top of the hillside. This position, combined with a north-east exposure, favors slow, late ripening of the berries. The vines, averaging 60 years of age, thrive on a subsoil composed of ferruginous clay. The estate practices entirely manual harvesting, with controlled yields of around 40 hl/ha.
The Vintage
2024 proved to be a particularly challenging year in Burgundy, marked by constant humidity and record rainfall. These weather conditions led to significant mildew pressure, impacting harvest volumes. Nevertheless, plots with excellent drainage were able to withstand these climatic challenges, helping to preserve a satisfactory sanitary condition for the grapes.
Winemaking and Aging
The making of this Pernand-Vergelesses 2024 begins with a traditional fermentation carried out in open vats, followed by a complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 10 to 12 months. This stage takes place in medium-toast French oak barrels, 25% of which are new, all meticulously crafted by the house's own cooperage.
Grape Variety
This cuvée is made exclusively from 100% Pinot Noir.
