Mid crimson. Pure dark-red fruit with a hint of spice. Firm flavour but rather light in the middle. They seem to have taken a very gentle approach (to the reds) in this vintage. Lingers nicely with fresh fruit coming back on the finish. (JH)

Supple, with red and black fruit, very smooth, with a good, coating finish.

The elegance of a great Burgundy Pinot Noir crafted by Louis Latour

The estate
Officially founded in 1797, the Louis Latour House is a true institution in Burgundy. This historic estate spans approximately 48 hectares of vines, a large portion of which is classified as Grand Cru. Today, the twelfth generation is represented by Eléonore Latour, who leads the brand's strategy with a determination to preserve the family heritage while looking to the future. The estate is notably distinguished by its long-standing commitment to sustainable viticulture and by owning its own in-house cooperage, a rarity in the region.

The vineyard
The vines that give rise to this cuvée are located in the northern part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, on the border with Vosne-Romanée. Averaging around thirty years of age, this vineyard benefits from a beautiful east-facing exposure. The vines flourish on a very stony terroir, composed of a clay-limestone subsoil and sand, where the bedrock outcrops. The estate practises environmentally respectful viticulture, limiting yields to around 40 hectolitres per hectare. The harvest is carried out by hand in order to preserve the integrity of the bunches.

The vintage
The 2013 vintage was marked by capricious weather conditions. After a particularly cold start to the year and a dreary spring that delayed budburst, the vineyard had to contend with hailstorms. Fortunately, a warm and sunny month of August helped to make up part of the lag in vegetative growth. Despite a wet September that required great vigilance, the harvested grapes were able to reach a fine level of ripeness.

Winemaking and aging
The crafting of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Damodes" 2013 is based on traditional methods. Fermentation takes place in open vats, followed by 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine then benefits from aging for 10 to 12 months in medium-toast French oak barrels, made by the House's own cooperage. This maturation period uses a proportion of 40% new barrels.

Grape variety
This cuvée is made exclusively from Pinot Noir.
