The elegance and depth of a great red wine from Morey-Saint-Denis

The estate

Officially founded in 1797, Maison Louis Latour is an iconic figure in Burgundy. Having remained independent and family-owned for more than two centuries, it oversees an exceptional 48-hectare vineyard, a large part of which is classified as Grand Cru. Now headed by Florent Latour, representing the eleventh generation, the estate skilfully combines respect for tradition with sustainable innovation. Unique in its kind, the estate has its own cooperage, ensuring perfect mastery over the ageing of its wines, renowned worldwide for their excellence.

The vineyard

The Morey-Saint-Denis appellation lies at the heart of the prestigious Côte de Nuits, nestled between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. The vines flourish on distinctive terroirs composed of chalk and limestone, giving the grapes remarkable minerality and excellent ageing potential. The estate places great importance on preserving ecosystems, favouring environmentally friendly practices such as the use of natural compost and horse ploughing for the steepest plots.

The vintage

The year required particular attention in the vineyard to ensure optimal vine health. Green harvesting and rigorous leaf removal were carried out to allow the bunches to breathe. Ultimately, a dry spell and warm temperatures at harvest time prevented the development of rot, resulting in grapes of excellent quality.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes for this Morey-Saint-Denis 2023 are hand-harvested, meticulously sorted and then destemmed. Fermentation takes place traditionally in open vats, accompanied by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 10 to 12 months in medium-toast French oak barrels, 20% of which are new, all crafted by the estate's own cooperage.
