The Richness and Complexity of a Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru by Louis Latour

The Estate

Founded in 1797, the Louis Latour house is a family-owned, independent institution located in Aloxe-Corton, in Burgundy (France). Representing the twelfth generation, Florent Latour now leads this historic estate, supported by Eléonore Latour. With a vineyard of around 50 hectares, the estate stands out for having the largest concentration of Grands Crus in the Côte d'Or. A pioneer in sustainable development with its ISO 14001 certification, the house also has its own cooperage and vinifies its cuvées at Château Corton Grancey, the oldest gravity-flow cellar in the country.

The Vineyard

This wine comes from Chassagne-Montrachet, and more specifically from the climat Morgeot, the largest Premier Cru in the appellation, located on the border with Saône-et-Loire. The vines flourish on the gentle south-east-facing slopes of the Côte d'Or escarpment, benefiting from excellent exposure to the morning light. The terroir is distinguished by dense soils made up of a mix of clay and gravel.

The Vintage

The year 2024 was particularly challenging, marked by difficult weather conditions and strong disease pressure. These challenges led to a drastic drop in production. Nevertheless, thanks to rigorous vineyard management and highly selective harvesting, this vintage preserved optimal fruit quality.

Winemaking and Aging

For this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" 2024, the hand-harvested grapes are sorted and then pressed directly, without skin maceration. The must then undergoes rapid fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Aging continues for around ten months in French oak barrels, made by the house's own cooperage. Rackings are carried out before the final blending.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
