Decanter

Deep and dark in colour, particularly next to the 2011 and 2013. Very concentrated with a touch of volatility. Almost tropical, reminiscent of a great Le Pin. Well integrated tannin structure but with a slight dryness on the savoury finish.

James Suckling

The fragrant crushed-berry and violet character leaps out of the glass at you. But this has serious muscularity, a generous tannin structure with great polish and refinement, and a finish that pumps out the flavors. Enormous concentration and length for this appellation. Drink or hold.

Very heady. Almost syrupy. Pretty exaggerated style. Tough finish. Dramatic. Thick but not really appetising. (JR)

Showing a much deeper color than the regular cuvée, the wine leaps out with flowers, smoke, licorice, cinnamon, and truffle. Full-bodied, indeed dense, the tannins are ripe, plush, and long. The fruit is perfectly ripe with a chocolate accent, and the sensual finish keeps getting better as you continue to enjoy the bottle. This needs up to a decade in the cellar before it is ready to explode.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Deep dark ruby, firm core, purple reflections and delicate brightening on the rim. Inviting nose with ripe plum fruit, dark forest berries, fine noble wood and a touch of candied orange zest. Juicy, elegant palate, attractive ripeness, round, integrated tannins, fresh and long with a touch of fine chocolate on the finish. Certain ageing potential.

The special cuvée that sees an extended élevage and is 100% Merlot, the 2016 Château La Fleur de Boüard Plus is slightly deeper colored and has more power and depth, with beautiful blackberry and kirsch notes intermixed with ample smoked herbs, hints of chocolate and white flowers. This medium- to full-bodied, supple, seamless beauty builds on the palate, has fine, silky tannins, no hard edges, beautifully integrated oak, and a great finish.

As always, 100% Merlot. Dark purple with a violet rim. An enticing bouquet of cassis, backed by violets and blueberries, plus a touch of fine, light noble wood. On the palate, it shows impressive power—concentrated and full-bodied—with finely powdery tannins. This powerhouse, finishing on blueberry pastilles and blackcurrants, still needs to be tamed.

Very expressive nose of dark fruits, well-integrated oak, fresh, red fruits, ample tannins, very fine structure, saline finish.

The nose is elegant, aromatic, and offers lovely finesse. It reveals delicate notes of blackberry and violet/flowers, combined with a discreet touch of gariguette strawberry, as well as fine hints of sweet spices and an imperceptible hint of Sichuan pepper. The palate is fruity and balanced, delivering lovely creaminess, smoothness, beautiful minerality, subtle creaminess, attractive substance, roundness, tension, a pleasing richness, and a fresh thread/a charming guiding line that leads the tasting. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of fresh, fleshy blackberry, fine notes of blackcurrant and ripe raspberry, combined with a discreet touch of fresh red berries, as well as subtle hints of toasted/caramelized oak. Very beautiful finish with fine notes of dark chocolate/bitterness of chocolate. The tannins are fine and already well-integrated (for their age). Lovely indulgence and very beautiful aromatic persistence! A very fine wine with great potential (2022+).

Jean-Marc Quarin

Black color. Intense nose, with notes of ripe fruit and dark fruit. Smooth, creamy touch, almost oriental. Rich on the attack, juicy mid-palate, supple and dense, the wine develops with very fruity, flavorful character. It bounces back on the finish, complex and a touch austere, but very long. There is real wine in the glass! Moreover, the aroma follows the tannin in the length. Fine-grained.

La RVF

Produced only in outstanding vintages, it delivers bold fruit on a chalky, dense palate with powdery tannins, tapering elegantly on the finish. Its 33 months in new barrels have flown by, and the wine is neither filtered nor fined.
