Vinum

Radiant nose, violets, blackcurrant on the bouquet; linear palate, gripping structure, fine, slightly powdery tannins, shows tension, finishes long on blood orange, full of character.

Decanter

Aromatic intensity in terms of blackcurrant leaf, raspberry and dried herbs. Softly chewy tannins open the expression with cooling blue fruit and some minty freshness. This is structured with a wide frame but super light tannins, they haven't pushed this at all. Definitely more focused on the fruit with soft hints of spice and herbs. What it does not have in density it makes up for in clarity and precision. More of an airy style but still with long length. Ageing 30% in new oak barrels. 3.7pH.

Mint, flowers, cocoa, smoke and cherry aromas pop in the perfume. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, energetic, lifted and on the red fruit side of the style range, with a juicy, vibrant, red plum and cherry finish. The wine blends 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Drink from 2026-2038. 90-92 pts

Le Figaro Vin

An enticing nose of sweet small fruits with hints of tulips. On the palate, the wine is majestic: very delicate, harmonious, with melting, perfectly ripe fruit and lovely bitters on the finish.

The property

At the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is among the oldest wine estates in Bordeaux, with origins dating back to 1365. The acquisition of the property by Daniel and Florence Cathiard in 1990 marks a decisive turning point in its history. Driven by an ambitious vision and a deep passion, the Cathiard couple have raised the estate to the top of the Graves. Today, Smith Haut Lafitte shines internationally thanks to its Red wines and White wines recognized for their refinement and unique signature.

The vineyard

The plots dedicated to Petit Smith Haut Lafitte red are cultivated using organic and biodynamic agriculture in the terroirs of Pessac-Léognan. The vines, with an average age of 12 years, benefit from mass selection with rootstocks from the mother vine of the property, guaranteeing the authenticity and quality of the plant heritage.

Vinification and aging

Double sorting pre and post destemming. Unstamped grapes are received by gravity into the vats where fermentation takes place. The extraction of aromatic compounds and tannins is carried out by punching down and/or pumping over. Aging takes place for 14 months in barrels, 20% of which are new wood.

Blend

60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot.
