Decanter

Black fruits are joined by a cooling freshness. This isn't quite up to the standard of the legendary 2010, where even the second wine was unmissable, but it's good value with some lovely crunchy fruit. A smart buy.

James Suckling

Tight and focused with blackcurrant, walnut and dark-chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium body, fine tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows excellence for the second wine of Sociando. Drink after 2022.

Vinous

Antonio Galloni

The 2016 La Demoiselle Sociando Mallet offers good immediacy, but then loses some of its focus and delineation. Drink this fruity second wine over the next year or two.

Bettane+Desseauve

Powerful aromas of jammy black fruits, cocoa and leather; a straightforward palate with firm, vigorous tannins and great freshness on the finish. Plenty of potential.

La RVF

Well-structured, with a tender palate and a gourmand, indulgent approach

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Wine with fruit that is clearer than usual, medium-bodied and seamless.

Description

A rich and refined second wine from Haut-Médoc

The estate

Château Sociando-Mallet is an 83-hectare estate that overlooks the Gironde estuary. This property, located on the left bank of Bordeaux, is one of the most beautiful non-classified wines in the Médoc region.

The vineyard

The vines are around twenty years old on average and are planted on a terroir composed of gravel and clay, resting upon a limestone subsoil. The vineyard is cultivated in a traditional manner, without anti-botrytis treatments and through a selection and a controlled use of organic soils. The vineyard is composed of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

The wine

The second wine of the château, La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet 2016 is a Haut-Médoc wine whose name refers to a species of dragonfly that happily lives in the Médoc.

Vinification and ageing

Manual harvesting followed by a rigorous sorting before and after destemming. Following vinification, the wine is aged mainly in vats.

Food and wine pairing

This second wine from Haut-Médoc will complement grilled meat, fish or shellfish.
