Vinum

Expressive, with clear dark chocolate, floral and smoky notes; on the palate, full and dense yet very elegant, precise tannins, lively acidity, remarkably crisp fruit, long finish, ending on sour cherries coated in chocolate. Punches well above its weight.

Decanter

Ripe blackcurrant, sweet strawberry and cranberry aromas, expressive and open on the nose, certainly smelling rich and concentrated with a lovely vivid purple colour to the rim. Some inky notes, cool blueberries, iodine and liquorice too. Chewy, so friendly and charming, this is generous in terms of fruit with purity and really lifted acidity yet balanced between acidity and fruit. Finessed tannins, not as much weight as usual, but this is approachable. Ageing will soften the edges. I like the definition though, really high-definition winemaking here. So focused, almost razor sharp. Lightly presented, more sour and sherbet-like. Fun. 3% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. 35% production. 20% in foudre, 15% new oak, the rest in old barrels. pH 3.50.

Le Figaro Vin

A hedonistic yet precise wine, brimming with ripe purple fruits, followed by smoky, meaty and floral nuances that captivate and invite you to dive in. On the palate, the substance is broad and fluid, with a caressing, velvety texture.

Description

A Second Wine from Saint-Estèphe, ample and beautifully fresh

The estate

Since its acquisition in 2006 by Martin and Olivier Bouygues, Château Montrose brilliantly embodies the excellence of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, this prestigious estate extends over one of the most remarkable terroirs of the Médoc. Recognized yesterday as today for the quality of its wines, the elegance of its style and its refinement, this essential property enjoys a firmly established international reputation.

The vineyard

Château Montrose relies on an exceptional vineyard of 95 hectares in one piece, a rare configuration in Bordeaux. Located near the Gironde estuary, this elite terroir rests on gravelly hills mixed with sand on the surface, on a clay subsoil. This unique site, considered one of the greatest terroirs of Bordeaux, gives these Saint-Estèphe wines a singular and consistent signature.

The wine

Second Wine of Château Montrose, La Dame de Montrose is made from the same vineyard as the Grand Vin. Predominantly made up of merlot, La Dame de Montrose offers another vision of the Saint-Estèphe terroir.

Blend

La Dame de Montrose 2024 is the result of a blend of merlot (73%), cabernet sauvignon (20%), petit verdot (4%) and cabernet franc (3%).
