Description
The elegance and freshness of a Montagny white wine from Joseph Drouhin
The estate
Founded in 1880 in the heart of Beaune, the House of Joseph Drouhin is a true institution in Burgundy. Now led by the fourth generation, with Frédéric Drouhin as chairman of the executive board, the family estate oversees a vast vineyard stretching from Chablis to the Mâconnais. A pioneer in environmental practices, the estate adopted organic farming as early as the late 1980s, followed by biodynamic viticulture. This terroir-respectful philosophy allows the house to produce authentic wines that combine tradition and innovation with great precision.
The vineyard
The Montagny appellation is located in the southern part of the Côte Chalonnaise, about thirty kilometres from Beaune. The vines flourish on horseshoe-shaped hills, benefiting from a fine east and south-east exposure, at altitudes ranging from 200 to 400 metres. This distinctive terroir rests on varied soils combining gneiss and surface clay, along with limestone and marl formations dating from the Jurassic and Triassic eras, offering ideal conditions for grape growing.
The vintage
The year 2022 stood out for climatic conditions that favoured excellent berry ripeness. This mild growing cycle allowed for the harvest of particularly aromatic white grapes, offering a remarkable balance between fruit richness and a lovely freshness, promising excellent aging potential.
Winemaking and aging
The making of this 2022 Montagny Village begins with hand-harvesting into perforated crates, followed by rigorous sorting. The whole clusters undergo slow, gentle pressing in a pneumatic press. After settling, the musts are transferred directly into barrels. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, as well as aging, take place in French oak barrels, 10 to 15% of which are new. This maturation period lasts between 12 and 14 months, under the close supervision of the technical team.

100% Chardonnay
Characteristics and tasting notes for the 2022 Montagny Village Joseph Drouhin
Tasting notes
Color
The glass reveals a clear, delicately translucent hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals scents of golden apple, almond and fern, subtly enhanced by a touch of citrus.
Palate
The palate opens with a bright, lively attack, giving way to a fleshy and pleasantly round texture. Well-structured, it extends into a long, indulgent finish marked by delicious notes of cooked fruit.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with firm-fleshed fish such as halibut or sea bream, as well as poultry like chicken or turkey. It also pairs beautifully with traditional dishes such as veal in white sauce, poached shellfish, or a land-and-sea paella. As for cheese, it beautifully enhances goat cheese, Comté or Beaufort.
Serving and storage
To fully enjoy this 2022 Montagny Village, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 13°C. While it already offers great pleasure now, it can also be cellared and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2030.
