Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 Jean Chartron
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue, both luminous and bright.
Nose
Wonderfully intense, the bouquet reveals a fine aromatic complexity carried by notes of almond, vanilla and honeysuckle.
Palate
The attack is generous and full, opening onto an ample, dense texture with remarkable freshness. The palate unfolds aromas of almond paste and sap, along with a lingering hint of vanilla, before stretching into a clean, mineral finish of remarkable length.
Food and wine pairing
This great white wine pairs beautifully with noble dishes such as lobster poached in butter, turbot or line-caught sea bass served with a beurre blanc sauce. It also enhances pan-seared foie gras or foie gras terrine, as well as oysters and raw seafood.
Service and storage
Blessed with great potential, this Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 will evolve very favourably in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2037. To fully appreciate its finesse, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C.
The elegance and minerality of a great white Burgundy
The estate
Founded in 1859, the Jean Chartron house is located in France, at the heart of Burgundy. Today, the estate is led by the fifth generation, with Jean-Michel Chartron at the helm, supported by his sister Anne-Laure on the viticultural side. Spanning 14.5 hectares, the vineyard is cultivated with a pragmatic and environmentally conscious approach. Renowned for its exceptional landholdings, the estate carries on a long tradition of excellence in crafting great wines.
The vineyard
The Montrachet terroir covers a confidential surface area situated between 250 and 270 metres in altitude. The vines, averaging around forty years of age, benefit from an ideal east-southeast exposure, promoting optimal ripening of the grapes at the end of the day. Their roots grow into shallow soils resting on a base of hard limestone and reddish marl, made up of a perfect balance of clay and stones, ensuring excellent drainage.
The vintage
2022 stands out as an outstanding vintage in Burgundy. The growing season was marked by above-average temperatures and abundant sunshine, along with dry weather. Timely storms at the end of June brought the necessary rainfall to relieve water stress, allowing for a harvest of perfectly healthy grapes with beautiful concentration.
Winemaking and aging
The making of this Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 begins with slow whole-bunch pressing using a pneumatic press. After a dozen hours of cold settling, the juice and its fine lees are transferred directly into barrels. Fermentation and aging on the lees take place in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood ranging from 10 to 40% depending on requirements, in vessels no more than five years old.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
