Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Aigle Royal 2022 by Gérard Bertrand
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a dense, deep ruby red hue, hinting at the concentration of fruit that comes from this high-altitude terroir.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, led by cherry and blackcurrant, accompanied by spicy notes and a floral touch, characteristic of Pinot Noir grown in the heights of the Haute Vallée de l'Aude.
Palate
The palate seduces with its freshness and balance, carried by supple tannins and a mineral tension inherited from the estate's clay-limestone soils. The long, lightly spiced finish reflects the freshness brought by the altitude of the vines.
Serving and cellaring
Aigle Royal 2022 is ideally enjoyed served at a moderate temperature. A little aeration in a decanter will allow the full aromatic palette of this high-altitude red wine to unfold.

The estate
Since 1992, the Gérard Bertrand house has established itself as a major reference among the great wines of the Languedoc. From Château l'Hospitalet, its headquarters nestled in the La Clape massif, Gérard Bertrand now oversees a group of estates and châteaux farmed biodynamically. A former rugby player turned ambassador for the terroirs of the South of France, he embodies an exacting, environmentally respectful approach to viticulture that contributes to the reputation of the Languedoc.
The vineyard
The Domaine de l'Aigle lies close to the village of Roquetaillade, in the heart of the Haute Vallée de l'Aude, at the gateway to Limoux. Its vines are among the highest in the region, planted at altitude on predominantly clay-limestone soils that lend freshness and tension to the grapes. This high-altitude Languedoc terroir, marked by a significant temperature range between day and night, is particularly well suited to the expression of Pinot Noir. The estate is Demeter-certified biodynamic.
Grape variety
This red wine is made from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of the Domaine de l'Aigle, particularly well suited to the cool, high-altitude terroirs of the Haute Vallée de l'Aude.
