The refinement and richness of an iconic Condrieu white wine by E.Guigal

The producer

The E.Guigal estate was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, in Ampuis. His son, Marcel, took over in 1961. Today, it is the third generation that perpetuates the heritage and values of this iconic family estate in the Rhône Valley.

Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, the E. Guigal estate watches over a patchwork of vineyards located in numerous appellation, creating a range of wines of impeccable quality.

Over the years, E. Guigal has developed rapidly, becoming the owner of the famous Château d'Ampuis in 1995, as well as several other wine estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine and Château de Nalys, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).

The vineyard

The iconic La Doriane d'E. Guigal is made from 5 exceptional vineyards in the Condrieu appellation (Côte Chatillon, Chery, Vernon, Volan, Colombier).

The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on steep terraces on soils composed mainly of granite (biotite granite, muscovite granite).

The vinification and ageing

After harvesting, the grapes are vinified for about 8 months, exclusively in small new oak barrels, as is the 12-month ageing period. 100% malolactic fermentation.

The blend

E. Guigal's Doriane 2018 is a 100% Viognier.

The tasting

Brilliant and clear, the colour is a beautiful pale golden yellow.

Powerful, the nose elegantly blends floral (white flowers) and fruity (apricot, white peaches) fragrances.

Pure and authentic expression of its exceptional terroir, this wine seduces by its finesse and freshness. The palate is round, aromatic, fleshy and enticing.

For an optimal tasting experience, serve between 12°C and 13°C.

This fine Condrieu white wine from can be kept in the cellar until around 2023, which will enable it to reveal its aromatic richness.

Food and wine pairing

E. Guigal's Doriane 2018 is ideal for an aperitif, foie gras, scrambled truffles or fish.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2018 Condrieu la Doriane was barrel fermented in 100% new oak. Yes, it's toasty as a result, but it's loaded with grilled stone fruit and doesn't seem overdone, just rich, plush, full-bodied and long on the powerful finish. It's another top-notch effort from the appellation's leading (volume) producer.
