Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "En Vigneraie" 2023 from Domaine Leflaive

Tasting

Appearance
The robe reveals a pale yellow hue tinged with light gold, enhanced by brilliant highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens on notes of white and yellow-fleshed fruits, such as apple and pear, nuanced by touches of exotic fruits and melon. A mineral thread evoking chalk and wet stone intertwines with subtle floral scents, brioche, almond paste and hazelnut.

Palate
The attack is generous and ample. The palate reveals a slightly creamy texture, perfectly balanced by a structuring acidity that maintains great freshness. The finish stretches out at length, carried by a lovely salinity and a persistent mineral tension.

Food and wine pairings

This white wine pairs ideally with noble fish such as turbot or sea bass served with a butter sauce, seafood such as pan-seared scallops, or white meats in sauce such as poultry in cream sauce. It also pairs wonderfully with cooked pressed cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.

Serving and cellaring

The Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "En Vigneraie" 2023 can be enjoyed in its youth for its brilliance, but it will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2031.

The excellence of a white Burgundy wine

The estate

The history of the Leflaive family in Burgundy begins in 1717, but the true creation of Domaine Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet took place between 1910 and 1930 under the impetus of Joseph Leflaive. A pioneer, the estate fully converted to biodynamics as early as 1997. Today led by Brice de la Morandière, representing the fourth generation, the estate stands out for its philosophy of placing the hand of man at the service of nature. With terroirs extending as far as the Mâconnais, the property remains an essential benchmark for white Burgundy wines.

The vineyard

From the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, this cuvée comes from a micro-parcel of 0.234 hectare located in the Mâconnais, at the foot of the famous Roche de Solutré. This very early-ripening terroir benefits from full southern exposure and a gentle slope. The vines are cultivated biodynamically on a particularly shallow clay-limestone soil, encouraging a strong interaction between the plant and the mineral bedrock.

The vintage

The 2023 vintage was distinguished by mild climatic conditions that made it possible to deliver a healthy and particularly abundant harvest.

Winemaking and aging

After exclusively manual harvesting, the musts of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru "En Vigneraie" 2023 are brought daily to the historic cellars of Puligny-Montrachet. The process begins with a long and gentle pneumatic pressing, followed by a 24-hour decantation and settling. Fermentation takes place entirely in oak barrels. Ageing extends over fifteen to sixteen months, including twelve months in wood before a six-month refinement in tank. The wine undergoes a homeopathic fining with isinglass and a very light filtration before bottling.
