Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Marsannay "Village" 2023 Domaine Sylvain Pataille
Tasting
Colour
This Vin de France reveals a beautiful red colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals sun-drenched notes of candied cherry and ripe strawberry, joined by delicate floral hints of violet, along with touches of liquorice, black pepper and sweet spices.
Palate
The attack is smooth and consistent, offering a silky texture. The palate unfolds with gourmand tannins and a lovely juicy length, underpinned by vibrant fruit and a subtly gamey character.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with roast duck, particularly when prepared with orange or cherries. It also perfectly accompanies feathered game, venison haunch, or mushroom-based dishes such as risotto. When it comes to cheese, it enhances mature, soft-rind varieties such as brie, camembert, gruyère or cîteaux.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment of the Marsannay "Village" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, after a light decanting of 15 to 30 minutes. This wine can continue to age in the cellar and will be ideal to drink until around 2035.
Other characteristics
This wine has a moderate alcohol content, generally between 12 and 12.5%.
The authentic expression of a Burgundy wine by Domaine Sylvain Pataille
The estate
Founded in 1999 with just one hectare of vines, Domaine Sylvain Pataille is located in Burgundy. Now overseeing a vineyard of 15 to 17 hectares, Sylvain Pataille, joined by his brother Laurent in 2008, is the current owner and winemaker of the estate. A key figure in his appellation, Pataille stands out for his environmentally respectful approach, having been certified organic since 2008 and applying the principles of biodynamics. The philosophy is based on minimal intervention, allowing the unique character of the terroirs to fully express itself.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Marsannay come from plots spread across the communes of Marsannay-la-Côte, Couchey and Chenôve. The vines, aged between 30 and 50 years, thrive on gentle slopes facing east and south, at an altitude ranging from 250 to 390 metres. The soils, marked by great geological diversity, are composed of limestone, marl and clay. The vineyard is cultivated with great rigour, including low yields and, for certain plots, horse-drawn tilling of the soil.
The vintage
The year 2023 began with a mild winter, followed by variable weather conditions that required meticulous work in the vineyards. Harvesting began in early September under intense heat, calling for precise picking to preserve the balance, freshness and optimal ripeness of the berries.
Winemaking and aging
The Marsannay "Village" 2023 is crafted through natural winemaking, using exclusively indigenous yeasts and extended maceration. It is first aged for 12 months in oak barrels aged between 3 and 10 years, preserving the brightness of the fruit without imparting excessive woody notes. It is then refined for a further 6 months in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
