The elegance of a great white Burgundy by Domaine Raquillet
The estate
Located in Burgundy, in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, Domaine Raquillet is a family-run estate whose history dates back to the 16th century. Its current form took shape when it was officially taken over in 1990 by François Raquillet and his wife Emmanuelle, now joined by their daughter Jeanne. This 14-hectare vineyard, certified High Environmental Value (HVE) since 2022, is renowned for its exacting quality standards. Thanks to rigorous selection and controlled yields, the estate has established itself as an unmissable reference within its appellation.
The vineyard
The vines dedicated to this cuvée cover an area of 2 hectares within the Mercurey appellation. With an average age of 25 years, the vines benefit from a west and south-west exposure on soils of marl with low limestone content, covered in scree stones. The estate practises sustainable conventional viticulture, with mechanical soil tillage through regular ploughing, simple Guyot pruning, bud thinning to limit yields, and preventive leaf removal. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand.
The vintage
2024 was marked by unpredictable weather in Burgundy. Heavy rainfall, combined with episodes of frost and hail, led to significant mildew pressure. These conditions required intensive work in the vineyards and a later harvest, completed at the end of September. A drastic sorting of the berries was necessary to ensure impeccable sanitary condition. Far from being a sun-drenched vintage, this one stands out for its remarkable freshness.
Winemaking and aging
To craft the 2024 Mercurey Village "La Brigadière", whole clusters are gently pressed before the must undergoes settling. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in 400-litre barrels. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 30% of which are new. This maturation period on the lees is followed by racking and a light filtration before bottling.
