Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" 2023 Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a delicate pale lemon hue, enhanced by brilliant golden highlights and subtle green nuances.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with great freshness, blending scents of white flowers and citrus fruits, such as lemon and grapefruit, with notes of white peach. Ageing on the lees brings delicate touches of almond and brioche, while the terroir expresses itself through a pronounced minerality marked by gunflint and limestone rock.

Palate
On the palate, this wine combines remarkable depth with great transparency. Flavours of citrus, pear and green apple intertwine with saline mineral notes. Supported by a perfectly balanced natural acidity, the tasting experience stretches into a long and particularly sophisticated finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great white wine pairs wonderfully with grilled fish such as sole or turbot, as well as simply prepared shellfish like lobster and langoustine. It also enhances white meats in delicate sauces, such as chicken in cream sauce or veal sweetbreads, as well as soft-rind cheeses like brie or camembert.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 12 and 13°C, taking care to open or decant it about an hour before tasting. This wine can be enjoyed now, but its excellent structure will allow it to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2035.

The Mineral Elegance and Purity of a Great White Wine from Meursault

The Estate

Located in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils embodies winemaking excellence spanning seven generations. The modern-day estate truly came into being in 1971, when Michel Bouzereau separated out the family's land. Since 1999, his son Jean-Baptiste has been at the helm of this 12.5-hectare property. Awarded three stars by the Revue du Vin de France, the estate stands out for its viticulture inspired by biodynamic principles, without official certification, and its meticulous observation of nature, giving rise to wines of remarkable purity.

The Vineyard

The terroir of the Blagny premier cru sits at a high altitude for the Meursault appellation, reaching between 340 and 400 metres. The vines, averaging 35 years of age and derived from massal selection, thrive on soils composed of marl covered with limestone scree and rich in marine fossils. The vineyard is cultivated with deep respect for the environment: herbicides were banned in 2005, and the soil is worked using horse ploughing to preserve the vitality of the land and enhance the unique mineral expression of this climat.

The Vintage

The year 2023 began with a mild, dry winter, followed by a spring with intermittent rainfall that allowed for ideal flowering in early June. Summer, initially moderate, saw a major shift in the weather after 20 August with a heatwave exceeding 35°C, significantly accelerating ripening. Storms at the end of August brought the necessary moisture ahead of an early-morning harvest that began on 3 September. The health of the grapes proved excellent, offering a perfect balance between aromatic ripeness and lovely natural acidity.

Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny" 2023 relies on a highly non-interventionist approach. After pressing, the musts are quickly transferred to barrel for a slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts in the cool of the cellars. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and benefits from a long ageing period on fine lees lasting from 12 to 18 months. For this vintage, the proportion of new oak barrels was reduced to 20%, a decision that helps preserve the full purity and mineral identity of the terroir.
