Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 from Domaine Faiveley

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a lemon-yellow hue of beautiful intensity.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a pronounced minerality, intertwined with citrus notes such as mandarin and lemon zest. It then evolves towards stone fruit aromas like mirabelle plum and white peach, enriched by subtle touches of white flowers, toasted hazelnut, and warm brioche.

Palate
The attack reveals a striking mineral and chalky structure. The palate unfolds a rich, buttery texture, perfectly balanced by a natural acidity that preserves great freshness. The remarkably long finish stretches into orchard fruit flavours and ends on a delicate saline note.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great white wine pairs wonderfully with delicate fish prepared in butter, such as sole meunière, or shellfish like lobster in cream sauce. It also enhances roasted poultry served with rich sauces, as well as foie gras or refined seasonal vegetable dishes.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 should be served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, having been decanted approximately thirty to forty-five minutes beforehand. This wine has great aging potential and can be kept in the cellar to be enjoyed until around 2060.

The Purity and Concentration of a Grand Cru from Burgundy

The Estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley stands as a key figure in Burgundy, France. This vast 127-hectare estate spans some of the region's most prestigious terroirs. Today, the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, leads the property. Under their guidance, the estate combines respect for age-old traditions with bold modernisation, illustrated by a complete conversion to certified organic farming in 2025, ensuring the continuity of this unique ecosystem.

The Vineyard

The Bâtard-Montrachet plot spans 0.35 hectares on a mid-slope, between the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Facing east and south, the vines planted in 1985 and 1997 benefit from ideal morning sunlight. They thrive on ochre, stony soils composed of brown Jurassic limestone with a high proportion of clay, offering excellent water retention while ensuring optimal drainage.

The Vintage

The year 2024 was marked by extreme weather conditions, characterised by exceptional drought throughout the growing season. Rainfall remained well below historical averages, accompanied by particularly high temperatures. This lack of water naturally limited yields, forcing the vine to concentrate all its energy on berry development.

Winemaking and Aging

The hand-harvested grapes for this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 undergo a rigorous sorting process. Fully destemmed, the bunches are transferred by gravity into temperature-controlled wooden vats. After complete malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately eighteen months in French oak barrels, 50 to 60% of which are new. Regular lees stirring (bâtonnage) is carried out during the first few months. The wine is bottled without excessive fining or filtration.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
