Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for La Tâche Grand Cru Monopole 2022 from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a deep, brilliant hue, ranging from intense ruby to garnet.
Nose
Wonderfully complex, the nose opens on aromas of red and black fruits intertwined with floral notes of rose petal. These are complemented by subtle touches of exotic spice, orange zest, incense, along with nuances of tea and undergrowth.
Palate
Rich and layered, the palate offers concentrated depth supported by a beautifully precise acid backbone. The soft, finely etched tannins envelop a deep, fruit-driven core. The remarkably long finish reveals a delicate oaky touch and lovely minerality.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with fine meats and game, such as wild duck, pigeon or venison. It also complements a black truffle risotto or soft-rind cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin exceptionally well.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal tasting, La Tâche Grand Cru Monopole 2022 should be served between 16 and 18°C, decanted while young. Built for a very long cellaring potential, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2072 in this outstanding vintage.
The Opulence and Precision of a Legendary Grand Cru from Burgundy
The Estate
Located in Burgundy, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is a global icon. While its origins date back to the Middle Ages, the estate was officially founded in 1912. Today led by Perrine Fenal and Bertrand de Villaine on behalf of the owning Leroy and Gaudin de Villaine families, this 25.5-hectare property is unique in cultivating only grand crus. Heir to centuries of expertise, the domaine is renowned for its jeweller-like precision in viticulture, producing wines of absolute rarity.
The Vineyard
The vineyard from which La Tâche originates spans approximately 6 hectares within the Vosne-Romanée appellation. This grand cru monopole, facing east and south-east, sits at an altitude of between 250 and 310 metres. It stands out for its remarkable geological diversity, alternating between thin, brown limestone soils on the upper slopes and deeper, clay-rich soils lower down, resting on a bedrock of hard limestone. The vines are tended with meticulous care, with strictly controlled yields.
The Vintage
2022 stands out as an exceptional and generous vintage. Following a hot summer punctuated by welcome storms, the vines showed excellent resilience in the face of sometimes extreme weather conditions. This favourable weather allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, resulting in a healthy and perfectly balanced harvest.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for La Tâche Grand Cru Monopole 2022 were harvested by hand, as late as possible, to ensure perfect phenolic ripeness. The winemaking process includes a proportion of whole-cluster fermentation, lending structure and aromatic complexity. The wine is then carefully aged in oak barrels, allowing the tannins to soften and the wine's structure to stabilise before bottling.
