Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Domaine de la Grange des Pères 2023

Tasting

Colour
The wine displays a deep garnet hue, enhanced by delicate violet highlights.

Nose
The nose offers a complex and elegant aromatic bouquet. It releases aromas of ripe black fruit such as blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry, harmoniously blended with notes of spice, liquorice and scents typical of the garrigue.

Palate
From the clean attack onwards, the wine shows fine volume and great elegance. The palate is ample, supported by fine, silky and beautifully rounded tannins, leading to a long finish of fruit and spice.

Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, such as herb-roasted lamb or oven-roasted summer vegetables. It will also elevate grilled red meats, slow-cooked dishes in sauce, as well as furred game or full-flavoured poultry.

Serving and cellaring

To fully appreciate this 2023 vintage, serve it at a temperature of between 16 and 18°C. Opening the bottle a few hours in advance, or gently decanting it in its youth, will bring out its best. Built for ageing, this wine can be enjoyed from 2026 but will continue to develop gracefully in the cellar until around 2043.

The elegance and singularity of a cult Languedoc wine

The estate

Founded in 1989 by the late Laurent Vaillé, Domaine de la Grange des Pères is located in Aniane, in the heart of the Languedoc. This cult estate, whose vineyard covers around a dozen hectares, quickly established itself as an essential benchmark thanks to its wines of rare elegance. Today, Bernard Vaillé, the founder's brother and current owner, carries on this exceptional expertise. True to the estate's identity, he upholds environmentally friendly practices and bold blends, producing cuvées that are highly sought after around the world.

The vineyard

The vines behind this IGP Pays de l'Hérault thrive on the heights of the windswept Arboussas massif, at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres. This terroir is characterised by a bed of lacustrine limestone covered with an abundance of pebbles and rocks. Surrounded by a rich biodiversity of garrigue, downy oaks and strawberry trees, the vineyard is farmed using uncertified organic and biodynamic methods, encouraging deep rooting and respecting the natural balance of the environment.

Vinification and ageing

This wine is crafted with meticulous care. The grapes are vinified plot by plot in stainless steel vats, preserving the identity of each terroir before the final blend. The wine then undergoes a long ageing period of around 24 months in barrels, a key stage that refines its structure and softens its tannins, giving it its full complexity.

Grape varieties

40% Syrah, 30% Mourvèdre, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Counoise.
