Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Marsannay Village "Les Grasses Têtes" 2023 from Domaine Bruno Clair
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a deep red hue with intense violet highlights.
Nose
Particularly expressive and intensely mineral, the nose reveals a complex bouquet blending black fruit aromas (blackcurrant, blackberry, plum) with tangier notes of pomegranate and blood orange. Subtle touches of exotic spices, orange zest and vine smoke enrich this olfactory palette.
Palate
Dense and full-bodied, the palate is built around a juicy, generous fruit core. The tannins, abundant yet remarkably fine and powdery, are perfectly balanced by a lively acidity. The whole extends into a remarkably long finish, full of energy and freshness.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with hearty meats such as grilled rib of beef, spiced roasts or game dishes. It can also make a pleasant surprise alongside fatty fish such as salmon, poultry in a rich sauce, as well as characterful washed-rind cheeses like Époisses or Munster.
Serving and Cellaring
The Marsannay Village "Les Grasses Têtes" 2023 requires a few years of patience to reveal its full complexity. It is recommended to cellar it for optimal tasting from around 2027 onwards.
The Elegance and Power of a Marsannay Wine
The Estate
Heir to the celebrated Clair-Daü family heritage, Domaine Bruno Clair was officially founded in 1979. Located in Marsannay-la-Côte, this emblematic estate of Burgundy now spans around 27 hectares across eight prestigious villages. Currently run by Bruno Clair, his wife Isabelle and their children Édouard, Margaux and Arthur, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful viticulture and rigorous massale selection. Domaine Bruno Clair is renowned worldwide for its ability to express, with great precision, the purity and complexity of Burgundy's finest terroirs.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the "Les Grasses Têtes" climat, a 2.26-hectare plot located at around 300 metres above sea level in the village of Marsannay. Benefiting from an ideal south-east exposure, this terroir sits on clay-limestone soils with a subsoil of Comblanchien and crinoidal limestone. The vines, grown from a demanding massale selection, are particularly old, having been planted between 1950 and 1990.
Winemaking and Ageing
Following hand-harvesting and meticulous sorting, the vinification of the Marsannay Village "Les Grasses Têtes" 2023 includes around a third whole clusters. Maceration takes place in wooden vats for 10 to 15 days. The wine is then aged for a long period of 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, around 40% of which are new, allowing its structure to develop further finesse.
