Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Véroilles" 2023 from Domaine Bruno Clair
Tasting
Appearance
The colour of this red wine reveals a bright ruby hue, of moderate intensity and slightly translucent at the edges.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with wonderfully delicate floral and fruity notes. Aromas of fresh rose, raspberry, wild strawberry and cherry intertwine with subtle hints of sweet spices, mild pepper and liquorice, all without any heaviness.
Palate
The attack is straight and refined, revealing a silky texture carried by finely chiselled tannins. The elegant acidity supports precise fruit and discreet oak, leading to a long, persistent finish on nuances of red fruits, rose and fresh liquorice.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with delicate white meats, such as poached poultry served with a light broth, or pan-fried sweetbreads with green asparagus and morels. It also matches beautifully with roast pigeon, poularde or mushroom risotto.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Véroilles" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, after decanting for 30 to 45 minutes in its youth. This wine has a fine structure that allows it to age gracefully in the cellar; it can be enjoyed until around 2036.
The elegance and richness of a Chambolle-Musigny wine by Domaine Bruno Clair
The estate
Founded in 1979 in Marsannay-la-Côte, Domaine Bruno Clair is part of a family winegrowing tradition that began in Burgundy at the start of the 19th century. Today, Bruno Clair, his wife Isabelle and their children Edouard, Margaux and Arthur run this 27-hectare French estate. The domaine stands out for its soil-friendly approach, its conversion to organic viticulture and its commitment to producing wines that reflect the purity of the fruit. This pursuit of elegance makes Domaine Bruno Clair an essential benchmark in France.
The vineyard
The Les Véroilles lieu-dit stretches over just under one and a half hectares in Chambolle-Musigny, just above the famous Bonnes-Mares slope. Facing south-east and situated at an altitude of 325 metres, the vines planted in 1990 thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in white oolites. The vineyard is managed as part of a conversion to organic viticulture that promotes soil health and rich biodiversity, reminiscent of the vitality of a Florina apple orchard, notably thanks to the planting of cover crops.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage was marked by weather conditions that favoured excellent berry ripeness. The cool nights, preserved on this high-altitude terroir, helped maintain fine tension and highlight the floral dimension throughout the growing cycle.
Winemaking and ageing
The manual harvest is followed by rigorous sorting. The vinification of the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Véroilles" 2023 includes 20 to 30% whole clusters. Fermentation begins slowly with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, accompanied by gentle maceration lasting 10 to 15 days with light punching down. Ageing then takes place over 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, of which around 20% are new.
