Tasting characteristics and advice for Riesling "Les Éléments" 2023 Domaine Bott Geyl
Tasting
Color
The color shows a pale yellow hue with golden and green highlights, bright and clear.
Nose
The nose reveals beautiful aromatic complexity, with delicate floral notes of white flowers, linden and jasmine. These are joined by fresh citrus aromas, notably mandarin, lemon and lime zest. A mineral dimension comes through with nuances of crushed slate, flinty notes and silex. With aeration, hints of white peach, lemon balm and fresh hay appear, accompanied by subtle notes of honey and cream.
Palate
On the palate, this Riesling charms with its elegance and balance. The texture is creamy and supple, supported by a medium body. The acidity, with fine intensity, brings freshness and vibrancy with a delicate, crystalline quality. Flavors evoke white-fleshed fruits such as peach and pear, citrus like lemon and lime, with lingering floral notes. The finish, pleasantly long, extends on mineral and white-fruit notes, offering a beautiful expression of the terroir.
Food and wine pairings
This Riesling is an ideal match for shellfish and seafood, grilled or smoked fish preparations, as well as Japanese-style tempura. It also pairs very well with choucroute garnie, Alsatian tarte flambée, goat cheeses, or white meats in a creamy mushroom sauce. Raw fish preparations such as ceviche or carpaccio also make excellent pairings, as do spring vegetables such as asparagus or fennel.
Serving and cellaring
Riesling "Les Éléments" 2023 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 8 and 10°C. It is recommended to open it about thirty minutes before serving to allow full aromatic expression. While already enjoyable in its youth, this wine has excellent aging potential and can be cellared until around 2036. For optimal storage, keep bottles lying down at a stable temperature between 8 and 10°C, away from light.
An elegant, mineral Alsace Riesling from Domaine Bott Geyl
The estate
The Domaine Bott Geyl was founded in 1953 in Beblenheim, in the heart of Alsace’s wine country. Born from the union of two winemaking families whose history dates back to the 18th century, the estate now spans eighteen hectares across seventy parcels, including six Grands Crus. Since 1993, Jean-Christophe Bott has managed the property with a philosophy firmly focused on biodynamics, certified since 2002, and natural, minimalist winemaking. This demanding approach has earned the estate the highest distinction of three stars in the 2026 Guide Vert from La Revue du Vin de France.
The vineyard
Riesling "Les Éléments" 2023 comes from parcels located in the communes of Riquewhir, Zellenberg and Ribeauvillé, in Alsace. The vines are grown on clay-silt-sandstone soils, which give the wine its distinctive mineral signature. The estate practices rigorous biodynamic viticulture, with deep plowing, composting according to biodynamic preparations, and a complete absence of synthetic products. Harvesting is carried out by hand in small thirty-kilogram crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. The average age of the estate’s vines is around thirty years.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage in Alsace benefited from favorable conditions enabling optimal grape ripening. The vines enjoyed a balanced growing season, resulting in high-quality harvests, with grapes expressing both freshness and full phenolic ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
Riesling "Les Éléments" 2023 is made following a natural, minimalist approach. After hand-harvesting, the grapes are pressed as whole clusters for eight hours, followed by twelve hours of static settling. Fermentation takes place with naturally occurring indigenous yeasts, with no added nutrients or enzymes, and lasts around five months at controlled temperature. No chaptalization, acidification or fining is carried out. The wine is then aged on fine lees until September following the harvest, and bottled without filtration.
