Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Gewurztraminer Grand Cru "Steingrubler" 2022 from Domaine Albert Mann

Tasting notes

Colour
A brilliant golden-yellow hue is enhanced by delicate green highlights typical of this grape variety.

Nose
Wonderfully complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of exotic fruits such as lychee, jackfruit and mangosteen. It then evolves towards spicier, herbaceous touches, evoking fresh ginger and Thai basil.

Palate
Full-bodied and generous, the palate seduces with its rich, almost velvety texture. The expression of the limestone terroir brings crystalline precision and a lovely saline minerality that perfectly balance the grape's natural sweetness, resulting in a finish full of tension.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with regional cuisine, particularly foie gras or characterful cheeses such as Munster and Gruyère. It also enhances spicy Asian dishes, Indian curries, Moroccan tagines, as well as seafood prepared in creamy sauces.

Service and storage

Thanks to its traditional cork closure, reserved for great cellaring wines, this Gewurztraminer Grand Cru "Steingrubler" 2022 boasts exceptional potential, allowing it to evolve and develop tertiary aromas for several decades in the cellar.

Other characteristics

This wine retains a moderate residual sweetness, a deliberate choice by the estate to respect the natural balance of the vintage without forcing an artificial dryness.

The pure, mineral expression of a great Alsace white wine

The estate

Born in the 1980s from the merger of two historic winegrowing families, Domaine Albert Mann is a major reference in Alsace. Today, the estate is run by the Barthelmé family, represented by brothers Maurice and Jacky, now supported by the new generation, Antoine and Pauline. Spanning 25 hectares, this estate stands out for its deep commitment to biodynamic viticulture, seeking to express the richness and diversity of its terroirs with the greatest authenticity.

The vineyard

Located to the west of the village of Wettolsheim, in the Haut-Rhin region of Alsace, the Steingrubler Grand Cru sits on predominantly limestone soils with significant clay inclusions. This specific terroir, cultivated according to strict biodynamic principles, encourages deep rooting of the vines. The absence of synthetic chemical treatments preserves the vitality of the soils and translates into a pure minerality in the grapes, often described as the taste of stone.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by warm and relatively dry weather conditions. Timely rainfall at crucial moments in the growing cycle helped avoid severe water stress. These ideal conditions favoured optimal phenolic ripeness of the berries, providing lovely concentration while preserving the acidity essential to the wine's structure.

Winemaking and aging

The production of the Gewurztraminer Grand Cru "Steingrubler" 2022 begins with exclusively hand-harvested grapes, selecting only perfectly ripe bunches. At the winery, gentle pneumatic pressing is carried out to avoid any oxidation. Fermentation extends over several months, followed by extended aging on the lees. This natural method stabilises the wine and gives it a subtle textural complexity, with minimal oenological intervention.
