Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Monopole Clásico Reserva 2022 from CVNE
Tasting
Appearance
This white wine from Spain shows a pale, limpid colour, which may reveal subtle golden hues as it evolves.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet unveils notes of dried flowers, reminiscent of chamomile, intertwined with scents of dried fruits such as almond and hazelnut, alongside delicate touches of white fruit.
Palate
The palate stands out with a refreshing acidity and a creamy texture brought by lees ageing. Dry and beautifully taut, it lingers long on a delicately saline, slightly austere finish.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted white fish, seafood or lightly spiced Mediterranean dishes. It also pairs very well with roasted poultry, white meats in a light sauce, as well as hard cheeses or grilled vegetables such as asparagus and artichokes.
Serving and cellaring
The Monopole Clásico Reserva 2022 is a white wine built for ageing, whose structure and complexity will allow it to develop favourably in the bottle over the years.
The elegance and uniqueness of a white wine from La Rioja
The estate
Founded in 1879 by brothers Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa, the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE) is a historic institution located in Haro, in La Rioja. Now led by Víctor Urrutia and his sister María, representatives of the fifth generation, the house oversees a vineyard of around 600 hectares. A pioneer in export and technical innovation, CVNE stands out for its strong environmental commitment and preservation of local heritage, while producing iconic cuvées that embody the Spanish terroir.
The vineyard
The grapes come exclusively from a plot of over five hectares located in Villalba de Rioja. Planted around fifteen years ago at an altitude of over 600 metres on limestone soils, the trellis-trained vines benefit from an east-facing exposure. This unique Rioja terroir is naturally sheltered from prevailing winds by the Sierra Cantabria and the Toloño mountain, offering ideal conditions for slow, balanced ripening.
Winemaking and ageing
Following hand-harvesting in 20 kg crates, the bunches undergo gentle pressing. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The Monopole Clásico Reserva 2022 is then racked with its fine lees for around eight months of ageing in used barrels and casks of various capacities. During this period, the wine undergoes biological ageing under a veil of yeast known as "flor", which gives it its unique aromatic profile and protects it from excessive oxidation.
