Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Auxey-Duresses Village 2024 by Comte Armand
Tasting Notes
Appearance
A deep violet and purple hue is highlighted by subtle lighter reflections at the rim.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with bright notes of crisp red fruits such as cherry and raspberry. It then evolves towards deeper aromas of chocolate, dried fruits and nuts, enriched by delicate floral touches reminiscent of pot-pourri. A mineral, ferrous dimension, evoking blood orange, rounds out this complex ensemble.
Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate surprises with its density and compact texture. The thick, gripping tannins give this wine a stature worthy of a premier cru. Beautiful mineral tension and vibrant acidity support the red fruit flavours, leading to a persistent, mouth-watering finish with iron-tinged accents.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine will pair wonderfully with roasted poultry, such as duck with mild spices, or grilled salmon. It will also enhance mushroom-based dishes, truffle pasta, as well as oven-roasted root vegetables.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine at around 15 to 16°C. With its solid structure, this Auxey-Duresses 2024 can be cellared and will be ready to drink from approximately 2027 to 2038.

The Estate
Located in the heart of Pommard, in Burgundy (France), Domaine Comte Armand traces its origins back to 1828, the year the renowned Clos des Épeneaux monopole was integrated into the family's heritage. Now led by Olivier Armand, this prestigious nine-hectare estate is renowned for wines that combine power, richness and refinement. A pioneer of sustainable viticulture, the estate has been certified organic since 2005 and applies biodynamic principles. Under the technical direction of Paul Zinetti, Comte Armand stands as an essential benchmark.
The Vineyard
This Auxey-Duresses wine comes from a plot of vines around forty years old, planted on a steep, south-facing hillside. This unique terroir stands out for its extremely limestone-rich nature, with active limestone content reaching up to 30%. Cultivated according to biodynamic principles, this soil encourages deep root growth and gives the grapes a natural concentration as well as remarkable minerality.
The Vintage
The year 2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. A difficult flowering period, followed by violent hailstorms, significantly impacted the growing cycle. These climatic setbacks led to a drastic drop in yields, limiting the harvest to just 20% of a typical year. Nevertheless, the steep slope and highly calcareous nature of the hillside helped preserve the health of the grapes against mildew pressure.
Winemaking and Ageing
To accommodate the exceptional concentration of the raw material, the winemaking of this Auxey-Duresses 2024 was carried out with fully destemmed grapes, a deliberate choice aimed at preserving the purity of the fruit. The wine was then aged in oak barrels, with a measured proportion of around 20% new wood, allowing the tannic structure to be refined without masking the identity of the terroir.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
