Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru 2024 from Comte Armand

Tasting

Colour
The colour of this red wine stands out with impressive depth and beautiful visual intensity.

Nose
Elegant and remarkably fresh, the bouquet reveals vivid aromas of cool red berries. It is enriched with complex notes of undergrowth, damp earth and moist forest, reflecting a perfectly integrated use of oak.

Palate
The palate offers remarkable density at its core, underpinned by a pronounced minerality evoking chalk, salinity and crushed stone. The finish, while youthful and slightly austere, reveals a firm structure and a beautifully controlled balance.

Food and Wine Pairing

This fine dining wine will pair perfectly with roasted red meats, game dishes or a selection of mature cheeses.

Serving and Cellaring

Built for fine evolution, this Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru 2024 can be enjoyed after a few years of cellaring and will continue to develop until around 2040.

The Estate

The history of the estate officially began in 1828 when the family of Comte Armand, still the current owner, added the famous Clos des Épeneaux to their holdings. Located in the heart of the village of Pommard in Burgundy, the estate now covers approximately 9 hectares. Led by estate manager Paul Zinetti, the domain stands out for its pioneering commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The house's philosophy is rooted in respect for the soil and biodiversity, allowing it to produce wines that combine the natural power of the terroirs with a constant pursuit of finesse and elegance.

The Vineyard

The grapes come from two complementary premier cru plots located within the Auxey-Duresses appellation: Les Breterins and Les Duresses. Covering around one hectare, these vines benefit from a favourable east and south-east facing exposure. The terroir consists of a mosaic of clay-limestone soils. The more clay-rich areas provide structure and density, while the chalkier zones bring freshness and suppleness. The entire vineyard is cultivated according to biodynamic principles, with soil ploughing and strict yield control to preserve the health of the vine.

Winemaking and Ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand to allow for careful berry selection. The winemaking of this Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru 2024 favours gentle extractions using exclusively indigenous yeasts. The process includes a cold pre-fermentation maceration, followed by spontaneous fermentation and post-fermentation maceration under controlled temperatures. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with 30% new wood for this vintage, providing a firm structure while preserving the brightness of the fruit and aromatic freshness.
