Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Château Faugères 2025
Tasting
Appearance
This wine displays a brilliant colour with cherry highlights and a beautifully luminous depth.
Nose
The intense bouquet is fruit-driven, led by blackberry, with subtle notes of grey pepper and delicate hints of summer flowers.
Palate
The palate is concentrated and dense, perfectly structured by a delicate acidity and very fine, chalky tannins. It unfolds with delicious notes of blackberry and pomegranate juice before turning spicier. The long finish is underscored by slight touches of bitterness.
Food and wine pairing
This fine wine pairs wonderfully with slow-cooked red meats, game stews and mushroom dishes. It also goes very well with blue cheeses and moderately spiced dishes.
Serving and cellaring
To make the most of its potential, it is best to cellar Château Faugères 2025 for 6 to 8 years before tasting. It will drink well until around 2045.
The elegance and richness of a great Saint-Émilion terroir
The estate
Founded in 1823 by the Esquissaud family in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, in the renowned Bordeaux region, Château Faugères passed through several owners before Silvio Denz acquired it in 2005. He has left his mark on the estate by modernising its facilities while respecting its heritage. Now a Grand Cru Classé, the estate combines tradition and innovation, notably through its contemporary winery and strong commitment to the environment, reflecting the excellence of its terroir.
The vineyard
The 39.54-hectare vineyard lies on superb clay-limestone soils on the gentle slopes of the Saint-Émilion appellation. At their highest point, the vines grow on a plateau that offers ideal conditions for the grapes to ripen.
The vintage
The year was dry and moderate. These favourable weather conditions allowed optimal photosynthesis throughout the growing season, with no renewed vine growth before harvest. The harvest took place under excellent conditions, beginning on 3 September with the Merlot and ending on 19 September with the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Winemaking and ageing
Maceration lasts 25 to 28 days in stainless steel vats. For ageing, 20% of the wine remains in stainless steel vats and the other 80% matures in barrels. These barrels are split equally between new oak, barrels used for one previous wine and barrels used for two previous wines. Alcohol: 13.5% vol.
Grape varieties
70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
