Description

The structure and richness of a Margaux wine

The property

The Château Durfort-Vivens takes its name from the Durfort de Duras family, established in Margaux since the 14th century, and from Viscount Robert Labat de Vivens, who became the owner in 1824 through inheritance. The estate was acquired in 1937 by the owners of Château Margaux, of which the Lurton family is one of the main shareholders. In 1961, Lucien Lurton became the owner, followed in 1992 by his son, Gonzague Lurton.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Durfort-Vivens extends over three communes: Margaux, Cantenac and Soussans. The 65 hectares of vines are planted on deep gravel soils, varying from sandy to clayey, offering ideal natural drainage for vine cultivation. This diversity of terroirs contributes to the complexity and finesse characteristic of the wines from this property.

The vintage

The mild and very rainy winter allowed for early bud break, spared from frost. The spring flowering was quick, and the summer, warm without excess, favored a beautiful maturation of the polyphenols.

Vinification and aging

Parcel vinification. The alcoholic fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by daily pumping over for a gentle extraction of aromas and tannins. After 21 days of alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months, 70% in new barrels and 30% in TAVA amphorae, without any additives during the entire winemaking process.

Blend

The Château Durfort-Vivens 2024 is the result of a blend of cabernet sauvignon (94.5%), complemented by merlot (5%) and a touch of cabernet franc (0.5%).
