Decanter

Zesty and creamy with a gentle mouthwatering quality, a combination of lemon juice and orange rind bringing a touch of bitterness, clear fragrance and oaky tones adding density on the palate while slightly detracting from some of the bright energy. Feels a bit heavy, though it will be nice with food. I do like the weighty creaminess, and this delivers a lot of flavor.

Aromas of sliced apples and lime zest with citrus blossom and crushed stones. Polished and round-textured on the palate with a full body and tangy acidity. Creamy finish. 60% sauvignon blanc and 40% semillon. Drink or hold.

Creamy, fresh peaches and citrus rind with a floral edge create the core of this wine. On the palate, the wine is creamy, lively and sweet, with a sweet, yellow citrus finish. Drink from 2023-2029.

Some new oak and toast, well-balanced with vibrant young fruit like fresh pineapple, confit de citron and aromatic herbs. The palate has a very nice grip and extract with finely tuned oak, some creamy and fresh butter sensations on the mid palate followed by a long and pure finish.

I consistently love this cuvée, and the 2020 Château De Chantegrive Caroline Blanc is no exception. Revealing a light gold hue as well as a great nose of honeyed citrus, white flowers, and bright grapefruit, it's medium-bodied, has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and outstanding length. It's another brilliant white from this team that will keep for 2-4 years, if not longer.

Kunz barrel sample 2021: (30% Sémillon, 65% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris) Silky, delicate bouquet, peach, grapefruit, vanilla. Fruity, full palate with sweet fruit, delicate acidity, fine aromatics, light finish. Has room to improve.

Le Figaro Vin

Aromas of vanilla, citrus and white flowers. On the palate, notes of pepper, passion fruit and grapefruit take the stage, counterbalancing the richness of the attack. A fine yet firm texture, and a mouthwatering finish.

Yves Beck

Aged for 9 months in barrel (50% new, 50% once-used), Cuvée Caroline shows a yield of barely 20 hl/ha. Complex, the bouquet reveals nuances of dried apricots, orange zest and lemon. With good density, the wine has depth along with a saline touch on the finish. Juicy, persistent finish.

Description

An opulent and aromatic Graves white wine

The estate

Founded in 1966, Château de Chantegrive is part of the Union of Grands Crus of Bordeaux. This forward-thinking family property in Graves is managed with passion and precision, producing beautiful wines representative of the Bordeaux region. The Caroline cuvée 2019 is the white wine of Chateau de Chantegrive.

The vineyard

The vines dedicated to the production of the Chateau de Chantegrive "Caroline" bottling represent 15 hectares of vineyard planted in gravel, rolled pebbles and fine sand on clay-limestone soils.

The vintage

The hot and dry summer conditions allowed the vines to develop and the grapes to ripen fully in time for the harvest.

Vinification and ageing

A cold maceration on the skins for 12 hours was followed by pneumatic pressing with nitrogen gas and a rigorous selection of the juices. Static cold settling took place for 24 hours, followed by a storing of the juices for 15 days. Fermentation was carried out in barrels at temperatures between 18 ° and 20 ° C. The wines were aged for 9 months in 50% new oak barrels, with a regular stirring of the lees.

The blend

The Chateau de Chantegrive "Caroline" 2020 was made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (55%), Sémillon (40%) and Sauvignon Gris (5%).

The tasting

The Chateau de Chantegrive "Caroline" 2020 is a Graves white wine that, en primeur, seduces with its complexity and elegance. While the nose reveals aromas of vanilla and white flowers, the palate blends aromas of passion fruit, white peach and grapefruit. The characteristic tension and freshness of this cuvée signal an important ageing potential.
