Robert Parker

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2017 Cuvée Caroline is slightly mute to begin, slowly giving lemon meringue pie, spiced apples and Bosc pears with hints of pie crust and almonds. The palate is medium-bodied, clean, crisp and fresh with a spicy finish.

Decanter

Buttered bread and preserved lemons on a subtle savoury nose. Peppery on the palate with a lingering finish.

James Suckling

A very attractive, complex and layered style with plenty of fresh-lemon and yellow-grapefruit character. The palate has a very long, plush and fluid feel with good freshness and depth. Drink or hold.

Bettane+Desseauve

A lovely, voluptuous white. Very expressive nose, striking fruit, smoky and mineral notes; a warm palate with real presence, almost some chew, freshness and length.

The cuvée Caroline is soft and indulgent, with a profile that is already very open.

A taut, juicy, fruity, dense, complex wine with a lovely finish.

Description

The Intensity and Structure of a Great White Wine with Character from Graves

It was in 1966 that the Chantegrive adventure was born. Since then, the property founded by Henri Levêque, an important player in the Place de Bordeaux, has become an emblematic and prestigious reference of the Graves appellation, south of Bordeaux.

While the 2017 vintage will be remembered because of its episodes of frost at the end of April, it has turned out to be an excellent vintage for Bordeaux white wines. And the 2017 Caroline cuvée of Château de Chantegrive is clearly proof.

The white vines spared by the frost managed to develop perfect maturity on time for harvest, which began on August 27. Although the yield was affected, this vintage favoured an excellent quality that is rarely achieved. Freshness, aromatic power, a perfect balance of sugar and acidity, all the conditions were right for the creation of a great wine.

With its blend of Sauvignon Blanc (50%), Semillon (45%) and a touch of Sauvignon Gris (5%), the Chateau Chantegrive Cuvee Caroline 2017 reveals a certain radiance in an intense and very expressive wine. Fresh grapefruit and citrus notes, rich notes of pineapple and other exotic sweets, generous fragrances of honey, the bouquet is simply beautiful. On the palate, the wine shows off an elegance upon a dense texture that offers a certain roundness and finesse. This wine achieves the perfect balance with an energetic acidity that extends the aromatic development on a long finish. A superb vintage for Chateau de Chantegrive.
