Château Couhins 2025

A little tight and compact right now, tannins at the fore, cool and fleshy with liquorice, gravel, slate, tobacco, tar, dark chocolate and cola around the edges. Quite a serious style in terms of flavour but with lovely chewy, fleshy, upfront and filling texture that has a soft edge. When the combination harmonises this will be nice. Lots to like.

Velvety autumnal fruits, a ton of damson and black cherry, lovely opening, very much succeeds on the aromatics but a little less smooth on the finish. 3.63 pH. Harvest September 9 to October 1. 15% new oak. Certified organic since 2022 vintage. Derenoncourt consultants.

The bouquet of Couhins 2025 reveals notes of blackcurrant, eucalyptus and pepper, highlighting the presence of Cabernet Sauvignon. Dense on the attack, the wine has compact tannins that provide energy, freshness and persistence, together with an underlying acidic structure. A characterful wine that needs time to fully express itself. Ageing will smooth out the edges, and the wine will already be enjoyable in its youth while offering good ageing potential.

Clearly shaped by the aging process, smoky; with air, cherries and herbal notes emerge, along with some yeasty nuances. On the palate it is fruity and fresh; pronounced yet silky tannins wrap around the crisp fruit. Very good balance, long, aromatic finish. Very good potential.
