Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Château Boyd-Cantenac 2015

Tasting

Colour
This red wine reveals an intense hue, enhanced by deep purple hints.

Nose
Particularly expressive, the bouquet reveals aromas of fresh black fruit and morello cherry jam. Delicate floral touches intertwine with notes of mocha and sweet spices from the ageing process.

Palate
The attack is direct, opening onto a wine that is both powerful and perfectly balanced. The silky texture is carried by round, creamy tannins. The long, satisfying finish captivates with flavours of blackcurrant and blackberry, alongside spicy nuances.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a herb-crusted rack of lamb or a fine sirloin steak. It also enhances elegant game dishes, such as venison fillet, poultry with mushrooms, and pressed cooked cheeses like Comté or Beaufort.

Serving and Cellaring

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to decant this wine one to two hours before serving, at an ideal temperature of around 16°C. With excellent ageing potential, this Château Boyd-Cantenac 2015 can be enjoyed until around 2035.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Margaux Red Wine

The Estate

Founded in 1754 by Jacques Boyd, Château Boyd-Cantenac is a Troisième Grand Cru Classé located in the renowned Bordeaux region. This 17-hectare estate stands out for a striking historical peculiarity: it has had no château building since 1929. Owned by the Guillemet family since 1932, it is now run by Lucien Guillemet and his nephew Olivier Salques. True pioneers at heart, the estate has followed organic principles for over forty years, producing wines that authentically express the full nobility of their terroir.

The Vineyard

Located on the prestigious Cantenac plateau within the Margaux appellation, the vineyard spreads across Quaternary siliceous gravel soils. These poor, warm and perfectly draining soils force the vines, averaging 38 years old, to root deeply. The vineyard is managed with great respect for biodiversity, using organic compost and completely excluding chemical fertilisers. The harvest is carried out by hand, with rigorous sorting to keep only the healthiest berries.

The Vintage

2015 is recognised as an exceptional year for the Left Bank of Bordeaux. The growing cycle unfolded very harmoniously, benefiting from ideal weather conditions for the ripening of the berries. The vineyard's health was perfectly managed, allowing for the harvest of remarkably high-quality grapes.

Winemaking and Ageing

The grapes harvested to produce this Château Boyd-Cantenac 2015 undergo plot-by-plot vinification. Maceration takes place over around twenty days in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, in order to preserve aromatic freshness and gently extract the tannins. The wine is then aged for a prolonged period of 17 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 90% of which are new.

Grape Varieties

This wine comes from a blend largely dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
