Description
The tension and complexity of a full and precise Beaune Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most famous estates in Burgundy. The estate is located in a watchtower-like bastion, built in the early 16th century, with 8-metre thick walls, nicknamed "La Tour des Filles" and now used to house the wines during the ageing period. Well-known by lovers of fine Burgundian wines, the Chanson Père & Fils estate offers secret vintages that brilliantly reveal the expression of the finest wine-producing villages in the Côte de Beaune.
Domaine Chanson reigns over 45 hectares of vines located exclusively in Premiers Crus and Grands Crus in the most prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune. Comprising 25 hectares in Beaune, Domaine Chanson is regarded as the specialist of the best Premiers Crus of Beaune.
The vineyard
This "Hauts Marconnets" Domaine 2017 by Chanson is a Savigny-Lès-Beaune Premier Cru wine made from an east-facing parcel of approximately 2 hectares. This Premier Cru takes its name from the Germanic tribe of "Marcomans", who settled on this site in the past. Savigny-Les-Beaune Premier Cru Hauts Marconnets stands out due to its very sandy soils that rest on limestone marl. Its location at the top of the hill enables the Chardonnay grapes to reach a good maturity.
The vintage
A great vintage for Burgundy, 2017 was marked by a classic winter followed by a hot spring and summer with some heatwaves. Harvesting began on 6 September for the "Hauts Marconnets" vineyard, with the harvesting of perfectly healthy grapes.
Winemaking and ageing
Once the grapes have been picked by hand, they are gently pressed. Vinification is carried out in oak barrels in the magnificent 15th-century cellars of Domaine Chanson. The Premier Cru Savigny-Lès-Beaune Hauts Marconnets by Domaine Chanson is aged for 12 to 14 months with a moderate proportion of new oak.
