The finesse and structure of a Beaune wine from old vines
The estate
Founded in 1720 by the cooper Edme Champy, Maison Champy is the oldest négociant house in Burgundy. Based in Beaune, it manages 21 hectares of vines and combines estate-grown production with a négociant business covering prestigious appellations. The house has been run by Dimitri Bazas since 2014 and has belonged to the AdVini group since 2016.
The vineyard
This "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 comes from a selection of vines planted between 1947 and 1949 in the Beaune appellation, the wine capital of Burgundy and the largest village appellation in the Côte d'Or. The vines thrive on the clay-limestone soils typical of this part of Burgundy.
The vintage
Winter 2022 in Burgundy was milder and drier than average. The weather in early September brought generosity and quality to the harvested grapes.
Winemaking and ageing
The Beaune "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 undergoes cold maceration followed by fermentation with native yeasts. Maceration lasts 3 weeks. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 228-litre Burgundy barrels, 20% of which are new oak.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
