Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for L'Intemporelle Rosé 2019 by Mailly Grand Cru
Tasting notes
Appearance
This rosé champagne reveals a delicate hue, with salmon highlights accented by shades of peach and orange, enlivened by a fine bead.
Nose
The nose offers refined notes of red fruit, enhanced by a hint of spice and a subtly toasted character that brings precision to the whole.
Palate
The palate charms with its elegance and silky texture. Citrus fruits lend energy to the unctuous body before giving way to a chalky minerality that structures the whole with harmony.
Food and Wine Pairing
L'Intemporelle Rosé 2019 is ideal as an aperitif. It also pairs beautifully with fine seafood dishes, such as langoustines enlivened with a touch of raspberry, a noble fish prepared with truffles, scallop carpaccio or gratinéed shellfish. It can also be enjoyed with a red berry dessert.
Serving and Cellaring
L'Intemporelle Rosé 2019 is best served chilled, under the usual serving conditions for champagne, to fully reveal its freshness and minerality.
A Rosé Champagne True to the Chalky Terroir of Mailly-Champagne
The Estate
Mailly Grand Cru was founded in 1929 in Mailly-Champagne, a village in the Montagne de Reims classified 100% Grand Cru. This cooperative, now owned by twenty-five winegrowing families descended from the founding members, produces all of its champagnes exclusively from grapes grown in this village. The estate ages its cuvées in chalk cellars hand-dug by its founders and exports to more than thirty-five countries.
The Vineyard
The original vineyard extends solely across the Mailly-Champagne area, divided into thirty-five lieux-dits, most of them facing north and west. This terroir in the Champagne Grand Cru appellation rests on a chalky subsoil that regulates the vine's water supply and gives the grapes, particularly Pinot Noir, freshness and saline minerality.
The Vintage
The 2019 vintage unfolded in a Champagne context marked by high summer temperatures and episodes of drought, tempered by the regulating properties of the chalky subsoil. These conditions favoured fine ripeness in the grapes, conducive to a rich fruit profile while preserving a certain freshness.
Vinification and Ageing
The making of L'Intemporelle Rosé 2019 begins with a manual harvest, followed by whole-bunch pressing, of which only the first press is retained. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at around 15°C, followed by malolactic fermentation in the same tanks. A proportion of 2 to 3% red wine from old-vine Pinot Noir is then added to the blend to give it its pink hue. After bottling for the secondary fermentation, the wine is aged on lattes in the estate's traditional chalk cellars.
Grape Varieties
The blend of L'Intemporelle Rosé 2019 combines 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, both from the Mailly-Champagne vineyard.
