Blason d'Issan 2017

Angular, juicy, with at most a hint of rusticity on the finish.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the nose of the 2017 Blason d'Issan is spicy with earth and tobacco undertones and black and red currants plus a waft of potpourri. Medium-bodied, it has a good fruit core, soft, plush tannins and an earthy finish.

Savoury nose of mushrooms, leather, sweet spices and ripe plummy fruit with some floral notes. Round and soft on the palate, with very fine tannins.

You can tell that this is ripe with so much plum and peach character, yet it remains fresh and vivid. Medium to full body with ripe and round tannins and a savory undertone. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot. So delicious already, but be patient and wait another two or three years. Try after 2021.

Mid cherry red. Pretty floral fragrance of dark-red fruit and sweet violets. Silky and sweet-fruited, light on the mid palate so that some oak sweetness shows on the finish but it's pretty and charming. At the moment there is a slightly intrusive oak note on the finish. (JH)

The 2017 Blason d’Issan has a light, tertiary bouquet with blackberry and crushed strawberry aromas, and touches of pressed flowers. It just needs a little more cohesion. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, a little angular at the moment with a somewhat austere finish. Drink this over the next three to five years.

The 2017 Blason D'Issan comes from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, raised in 30% new French oak with the balance in once- and twice-used barrels. It has a charming, forward style that offers classic Margaux elegance along with notes of raspberries, spring flowers, sous bois, and sappy herbs. It’s nicely textured, medium-bodied, and has loads of charm. Drink over the next 10–15 years.

It reveals pretty scents of rosehip tea, mulberries, and fallen leaves, over a kirsch and redcurrant jelly core. Medium-bodied, the palate has a finely grained texture and oodles of freshness supporting the savory layers, finishing on a mineral note.

Le Blason offers tender fruit and a well-integrated texture. Best enjoyed without rushing.

Logo on the cork: L and A as subscript Dark color, medium intensity and slightly evolved. Moderately aromatic and fruity nose, with a meaty note. Very pleasant palate and, as often, highly perfumed, which is the main interest of this wine with its nuanced, supple body. Medium length.

A very inviting bouquet! It shows charming, indulgent notes that suggest the fruit’s sweetness. The palate follows the aromatic character beautifully. It is fruity, appetizing and juicy. Lovely aromatic expression with notes of blueberries, ideally supported by the structure. A wine to enjoy in its youth.
