Description
A Nahe white wine that is seductively rich and well-balanced
The estate
For more than 250 years, Weingut Dönnhoff has reigned over a unique terroir of steep hillsides on the banks of the Nahe river. Helmut Dönnhoff produces, vintage after vintage, fine German wines from a mosaic of terroirs that all express the complexity, purity and multiple nuances of Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.
Renowned beyond the country’s borders as some of the most iconic white wines in the world, the wines of Weingut Dönnhoff offer an alluring elegance, aromatic richness, freshness and an exceptional minerality, which all emerge after several decades of ageing.
The vineyard
Comprising a surface area of 25 hectares, the terroir of the Weingut Dönnhoff is unique. The various soils and sun exposures are ideal and enable the grapes to reach optimal ripeness levels. The vines, which are between 20 and 70 years old, are tended to with great care and produce high-quality and low-yields.
The wine
Classified as a VDP Grosse Lage, this sweet wine (Goldkapsel) is a Nahe wine that stems from a sloping, south-facing vineyard. With a maximum age of 70 years, the vines are planted on mineral-rich soils consisting of grey-black slate and volcanic elements. This terroir is one of the most exceptional in the region.
The vintage
2021 was a year marked by contrasting weather conditions, with particularly dry periods that impacted the vineyard and yields. Despite these conditions, the grapes harvested boast a high quality.
The blend
This Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Auslese Goldkapsel 2021 by Weingut Dönnhoff is a 100% Riesling.
