Description
A great, highly mineral and well-balanced wine from Lower Austria
The estate
Surrounded by his family and a passionate team, Willi Bründlmayer, a modern and innovative winegrower, has turned his parents’ estate into a true benchmark of international renown. Thanks to his determination and great expertise, the wines of Weingut Bründlmayer now stand as emblems of the great wines of Austria, while strictly following the Austrian government’s organic farming programme. Alongside this organic viticulture, a truly exceptional terroir, at the crossroads of the Danube and the Kamp valleys, ensures the variety and unique character of these rare wines. As a result, the wines of Weingut Bründlmayer, a member estate of the Académie Internationale du Vin, stand out for their Austrian identity and resolutely international style.
The vineyard
The Steinmassl vineyard, where this Riesling Langenloiser Steinmassl 2019 originates, is characterised by the rocky soil typical of the Kamptal and Wachau regions, which gives the small berries a highly aromatic character. The highest vines are trained on a lyre system, allowing them optimal sun exposure. The result is a Riesling of outstanding quality.
The vintage
2019 began with a warm, wet winter, followed by a very dry, almost summer-like spring. May, by contrast, proved relatively cool, but temperatures nonetheless remained above the critical threshold and the vines suffered very little damage. In fact, they emerged very well hydrated thanks to the moisture and cold. Harvest began as early as the end of August and ended in mid-October in relatively good conditions. 2019 proved to be a vintage full of potential, promising wines of exceptional character.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvest at the Steinmassl vineyard takes place in early October, and only the finest berries of this Riesling grape variety are selected. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged on 5 to 10% of its lees until bottling in early summer.
Blend
Riesling (100%).
Tasting
Nose
The wine displays a lovely harmony of lemon and white flower aromas, intertwined with notes of redcurrant and stone fruit.
Palate
This Riesling Langenloiser Steinmassl 2019 is distinguished by very subtle fruity nuances on the palate that lend it a lovely acidity. Its dry, fresh profile then gives way to a very mineral and slightly spicy finish.
Food and wine pairing
The Riesling Langenloiser Steinmassl 2019 is the ideal companion for dishes from both land and sea. It pairs wonderfully with fish and seafood, as well as with poultry, veal, pork, duck, goose and, more generally, Asian cuisine.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, serve at 8°C.
