Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Umani Ronchi's Vecchie Vigne 2024

Tasting notes

Appearance
Displaying a deep straw-yellow hue, it sometimes reveals greenish tints in its youth and gradually develops more golden shades over time.

Nose
Remarkably complex, the bouquet unveils aromas of white and yellow fruits such as peach, apple and pear, intertwined with hints of citrus. Floral, herbaceous and spicy notes further enrich this vibrant aromatic palette.

Palate
Full-bodied and beautifully structured, the palate offers a perfect balance between suppleness and freshness thanks to a well-defined acidity. The finish stands out for its remarkable length as well as its distinctive saline and mineral signature.

Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as grilled fine fish, shellfish or a seafood risotto. It also complements roasted poultry, white meats in light sauces and hard cheeses like pecorino beautifully.

Serving and cellaring
Endowed with excellent potential, this Vecchie Vigne 2024 is crafted for extended cellaring, potentially exceeding a decade.

The authentic expression of a white wine from Marche by Umani Ronchi

The estate
Founded in 1957 by Gino Umani Ronchi in Cupramontana, the estate has established itself as a benchmark on the Adriatic coast. Today, the property is run by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, with Michele Bernetti at the helm. Spanning around 210 hectares spread across Marche and Abruzzo, this family-owned brand cultivates a dual specialisation in indigenous grape varieties. Internationally recognised, the company combines significant scale with a strong commitment to quality, working in particular to elevate the great age-worthy white wines of its region.

The vineyard
The grapes destined for this Italian white wine come from plots located on the hills of Marche, at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres. East-facing, these vines, over 45 years old, thrive on deep clay-loam soils that provide a good water reserve. The vineyard is trained using the double Guyot method, with controlled yields of 6 to 7 tonnes per hectare, encouraging a slow and optimal ripening of the berries.

Winemaking and ageing
The manual harvest into crates takes place from late September to early October, at perfect ripeness. Following a gentle pressing, the must undergoes rapid cooling and static settling. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks at between 16 and 18°C for 10 to 15 days. To preserve all the freshness, malolactic fermentation is not performed. This Vecchie Vigne 2024 is then aged for approximately 10 months in concrete tanks on indigenous yeasts, before resting for a further 6 months in bottle.
