Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Roc d'Anglade "Reserva Especial N.9"

Tasting

Colour
Revealing a luminous ruby hue, this red wine evolves towards a deep garnet, enhanced by subtle violet reflections.

Nose
Complex and fragrant, the bouquet opens with aromas of fresh red fruits such as strawberry, raspberry and cherry. It then develops towards notes of leather, liquorice, jasmine and blackcurrant bud, all underlined by touches of garrigue.

Palate
Remarkably balanced, the palate offers a lovely freshness accompanied by a hint of salinity and notes of dark chocolate. Flavours of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant and sweet spices harmonise with wonderfully fine tannins. The finish proves long, elegant and velvety, carried by a persistent minerality.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with game dishes such as wild boar stew or duckling with sweet spices. It also perfectly accompanies herb-roasted lamb, grilled beef, as well as mushroom-based dishes, lentils or a gratin dauphinois.

Service and storage

Possessing exceptional ageing potential, this wine can be cellared for many years to reveal its full complexity.

The elegance and complexity of a great Languedoc wine

The estate

Founded in 1999 by Rémy Pédréno, who still runs the estate today with his wife Martine, Roc d'Anglade is a key reference in the Languedoc. Located in the historic village of Langlade, this estate stands out for its absolute pursuit of freshness and finesse. Going against regional standards that favour power, the current owner crafts wines of great purity, restoring the prestige of a terroir once favoured by the royal court.

The vineyard

Located between Nîmes and Montpellier, the vineyard produces wines under the IGP Pays du Gard appellation. The vines, aged between 25 and 60 years, are spread across ten plots offering a mosaic of soils made up of sand, clay, alluvium, limestone and marl. Surrounded by garrigue and benefiting from north, east and north-west facing exposures, the vines enjoy morning sun and afternoon shade, thus preserving the grapes' natural acidity. The estate is certified organic.

The blend

This non-vintage cuvée is the result of a complex blend of several years, inspired by Spanish traditions. It is composed of 33% from 2018, 28% from 2017, 24% from 2019, 9% from 2016, 4% from 2015, 1% from 2014 and 1% from 2013.

Winemaking and aging

The process follows a philosophy of minimal intervention. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts, retaining a large proportion of whole bunches, over a period of one to two weeks with very gentle extraction. The wine is then aged for twelve to eighteen months in Austrian oak foudres and demi-muids, mostly used, to preserve the expression of the fruit. Bottling is done without fining and with very light filtration.

Grape varieties

Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault.
