Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru "La Croix" 2024 by Pierre Girardin
Tasting notes
Appearance
This white wine reveals a luminous, brilliant colour.
Nose
The nose opens with a noble reductive note reminiscent of gunflint, before unfolding into a complex bouquet of citrus, exotic fruit and hazelnut aromas.
Palate
On the palate, this vintage is powerful and direct. The fruit-driven texture perfectly balances an intense, chalky minerality. The wine stretches into a finish of great freshness, marked by a lovely salinity.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as white meats in a creamy sauce, or noble seafood such as pan-seared scallops, lobster or turbot with beurre blanc.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru "La Croix" 2024, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. Built for long ageing, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2041.
The Expression of a Great Burgundy Terroir by Pierre Girardin
The estate
Heir to the thirteenth generation of a winemaking family, Pierre-Vincent Girardin founded the Pierre Girardin estate in 2016. Located in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy, the property extends over approximately thirteen hectares of Burgundian vineyards and more than six hectares in the Jura. The current owner, Pierre-Vincent, farms his plots following principles close to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The estate stands out for its very limited production of micro-cuvées, combining the family's historic savoir-faire with a contemporary, precise vision of winegrowing.
The vineyard
The grapes behind this Corton-Charlemagne come from very old vines, more than seventy years old. These plots are ideally located around the village of Aloxe-Corton, beneath the famous cross that crowns the hill. Benefiting from an east and south-east exposure, the vineyard thrives on clay-limestone soils rich in white marls. The vines are managed without leaf removal, with a high canopy to protect the bunches and cope with climatic challenges.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage proved particularly difficult in Burgundy. Capricious weather conditions and strong disease pressure put the vineyard to a severe test, resulting in very low yields. Despite these climatic challenges and complicated ripening conditions, the growing cycle was brought to completion, delivering berries of great concentration.
Vinification and ageing
The vinification of the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru "La Croix" 2024 begins with a fermentation started naturally by indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for twelve months in entirely new French oak barrels of an atypical 456-litre capacity. Ageing continues in stainless steel tank for five to eight months to stabilise and harmonise the wine before bottling.
