The estate

The prestigious magazine, Wine Enthusiast, honoured Penfolds as their 2013 New World Winery of the Year, the Penfolds estate had already established itself as an icon of fine Australian wines at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to Mary Penfold’s unparalleled determination. Indeed, the co-founder of the Penfolds estate put her heart and soul into making exceptional wines. Her lifelong work is reflected in the winery's success in establishing itself as a benchmark in Southern Australia. When Max Schubert became part of the Penfolds' story in the 1950s, he instilled the elegance of fine Bordeaux wines, that fascinated him greatly, into the estate's wines. Success shortly followed when the cellar master produced his famous Grange wines, which crossed Australian borders in order to win the hearts of wine lovers from all around the world.

The vineyard

Penfolds' Yattarna Chardonnay 2019 is made from several plots of the Penfolds estate located in Tasmania, Tumbarumba and Adelaide Hills. Therefore, this wine reflects a range of Australia's best terroirs, but remains deeply influenced by the Penfolds’ style.

The vinification and ageing

Following the harvest and the fermentation process, the wine is aged for 8 months in French oak barrels (55% of which are new).

Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2019 is a 100% Chardonnay.

The tasting


This wine is a beautiful straw yellow colour with greenish highlights.


The nose combines an intense minerality, with iodine and flint notes, with delicious citrus fragrances (lemon, grapefruit) and roasted hazelnuts.


Harmoniously combining balance, power and finesse, the palate reveals floral and woody (oak) aromas sustained by a beautiful acidity, all of which offer a promising and great ageing potential.


Yattarna Chardonnay 2019 can be kept in the cellar until around 2039, enabling it to reveal its full range of aromas.
