Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Docil Vinho Verde 2024 Niepoort
Tasting notes
Colour
Of great purity, this wine reveals a very pale hue, almost crystalline, with a beautiful visual clarity.
Nose
The bouquet reveals a profile that is both linear and complex. It exudes aromas of bright lemon and delicate white fruits, enhanced by a stony minerality and subtle spicy notes of ginger.
Palate
The attack offers a superb balance between freshness and depth. Carried by a lovely natural acidity, the palate unfolds with a lively structure and a remarkable saline minerality. The finish, of exceptional length for its category, gains in complexity as the tasting progresses.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine from Portugal is superb with oysters, lightly grilled seafood, or delicate white fish such as sole, turbot or sea bream, simply prepared with a drizzle of olive oil and lemon. Its herbaceous and spicy notes also make it a wonderful match for light Asian cuisine or Mediterranean dishes featuring ginger.
Serving and storage
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 3 and 7°C in a classic white wine glass, without prior decanting. With a good ageing potential, it can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2029.
The authentic expression of a great white wine from the Minho by Niepoort
The estate
Founded in 1842 by the Dutchman Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, the house of Niepoort first made its name producing Port at the heart of the Douro Valley. Driven by Dirk Niepoort from 1987 onwards, the estate transformed itself into a major player in Portuguese still wines, extending its expertise to five regions, including the Minho. Now led by the sixth generation, embodied by Daniel van der Niepoort and his brother and sister Marco and Anna, the estate stands out for its approach combining tradition, innovation and a strong commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture.
The vineyard
Hailing from the Lima Valley sub-region, this Vinho Verde comes from vines over 20 years old. The terroir is characterised by granite soils that give the wine its distinctive minerality. All the plots are cultivated using certified organic and biodynamic methods, with the utmost respect for the ecosystem and without any use of chemical fertilisers or synthetic pesticides.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, the whole bunches undergo gentle pressing to preserve the purity of the juice. After natural settling, fermentation takes place at low temperature in stainless steel tanks. To preserve all the natural liveliness and freshness of the grape, malolactic fermentation is not carried out. The wine is then aged for five months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
