James Suckling

So grand and so refined, this is a breathtakingly beautiful white Burgundy that lives up to the reputation of this legendary site, which is certainly not always the case! So creamy and silky, yet so precise on the expansive but precisely proportioned palate. Very long, super supple and delicate finish that just doesn’t want to stop. Drink or hold.

The Delicacy and Persistence of a Burgundy White Wine

The Estate

Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, Maison Louis Latour has upheld a Burgundian family tradition for over two centuries. As the owner of the largest Grand Cru estate in the Côte d'Or, the house notably holds emblematic parcels in Corton and Chevalier-Montrachet. Its integrated cooperage and its approach combining traditional heritage with modern innovation distinguish this independent family property, led by the Latour family who has passed down the name "Louis" through generations.

The Vineyard

The vineyard of Montrachet covers 8 hectares spread between the communes of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Louis Latour's parcel spans 0.80 hectares located in the north-central part of the appellation, in the commune of Puligny-Montrachet. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, root in a subsoil composed of limestone, gravel and chalk. Hand-harvesting allows the collection of exceptional grapes with a controlled yield of 35 hl/ha.

Winemaking and Aging

The winemaking respects traditional methods with fermentation in oak barrels and full malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place over 8 to 10 months in 100 % new barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, crafted from French oak with a medium toast that brings finesse and complexity to the wine.

Grape Variety

100 % Chardonnay, the emblematic variety of great Burgundy white wines, which finds its noblest and most refined expression on the exceptional terroir of Montrachet.
