Robert Parker

William Kelley

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru reflects all the sunshine of the growing season. Full-bodied, rich and glossy, with a sweet core of fruit and broad shoulders, its bouquet evokes peaches, buttery pastry, golden orchard fruit, baking spices and vanilla pod. This will appeal to readers who gravitate toward richer, more extrovert styles of white Burgundy.

James Suckling

A very cool and tight Corton-Charlemagne with the intense spice, bold structure and steeliness that we expect from this appellation. Staggering concentration, which at this early stage makes the wine slightly austere, but all this gives it great aging potential. Fantastic integration of oak, fruit and mineral acidity at the amazing finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

Bettane+Desseauve

A touch more brilliance for this wine that dominates the cellar, as the winemakers also believe. A grand, complex nose of vine blossom with the sappy richness of south-facing Charlemagnes, a majestic finish, great future, great wine, worthy of its status and price. Peak after 2030.

Wine Enthusiast

Anna-Christina Cabrales

Immediate aromas of honeysuckle, white mushroom, fennel give way to a layer of fresh citrus and delicate vanilla aromas. The palate is bold and rich with buttered brioche topped with ripe Korean pear with shaved lemon zest and a sprinkle of white peppercorn. Cellar through 2028+.

Description

A complex and fine Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru white wine

The estate

Founded in 1797, Domaine Louis Latour is currently run by the family’s 11th generation and is headed by Louis-Fabrice Latour. As a wine merchant and grower, Louis Latour owns the largest estate of Grands Crus in Burgundy.

The vineyard

Comprising a 10.5-hectare vineyard, the Louis Latour family owns most of this Grand Cru. At the end of the 19th century, the Latour family decided to uproot the Aligoté and Pinot Noir vines on this terroir, which had been devastated by Phylloxera, and replace them with Chardonnay vines. Louis Latour's Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 stems from an exceptional terroir that enjoys a south-east exposure and plenty of sunshine. This fine Corton-Charlemagne wine is renowned for its balance and rich aromas.

Vinification and ageing

Once the grapes have been harvested by hand, a traditional fermentation process is carried out in oak barrels, along with a 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 8 to 10 months in French oak barrels (100% new oak) from the cooperage of Louis Latour.

The blend

Chardonnay (100%).
